Is there a thread about this already? It's one of the most awesome things I've run into recently. Beccy & Austin are having their wedding in 1 month. They plan to live the first 90 days of their marriage using only bitcoins! They have a professional film crew but they need funding to do it. It can be funded with bitcoins and USD. http://lifeonbitcoin.com/This project is absolutely awesome. I already donated personally and our company will also support this.

This looks great. I really wonder how they'll go with finding those clusters of necessary shops though. It'll be a challenge for sure.

I would feel better supporting this if it wouldn't look so much for profit. Ok, they want to have some nice trip and some nice furniture and and and … and I see it would follow some rules: It would be a good thing if they wouldn't buy two things from the same store would not pay more than the list price for anything would spend all bitcoins they receive within the 3 months.
This way I would know I support a project where the viability of bitcoin will be proven and not that they have a grocery-store-uncle and a furniture-store-friend that already back this up via paypal to actually get some cash payments etc. that you can get something if you have the cash to pay 100% extra to be allowed to pay in bitcoin. that each bitcoin they receive, is an extra incentive for shops to apply with them to join the show.
Maybe they have some faq where they already promise something along these lines, but this would be what it takes to get me on board.

I agree with you on the friends and relatives part. However, I still think it'll be quite a challenge and make for a pretty decent documentary if they do this regardless of how much they make out of it. I think if they travel a little, it will add more credibility to the story. It has the opportunity to let non-Bitcoiners see what this is about in a format that they know and can relate to. So in that sense, I don't mind if they take a little profit for themselves, because if they pull this off then it'll be good for everyone.

They clarified the use of funds very recently. The money they raise will ONLY be used for the production of the documentary film. Not for their living expenses while "on Bitcoin". http://lifeonbitcoin.com/clarification-kickstarter-funds-for-documentary-only/This is as non-profit as it gets, so don't worry about it. They do have a very business-like and professional pitch though, but that's what you have to have when doing something like this. It's a high level Kickstarter pitch.

As for the nature of the trip, I hope they follow similar rules that Kashmir Hill followed on her week long experiment. No services allowed where someone accepts Bitcoin and delivers the service on behalf of the actual service. So services like "BitSpend" are a no-go.

That would be fair, but it's pretty hard to determine the use of this without a trusted third party unfortunately. If I remember correctly, I think they said that they were going to show which stores they purchase certain products at etc. which people can then go and check out. This will add some credibility to their venture.

Sure. I think many businesses will want to be on the film simply to get visibility. They will start accepting bitcoins because through that documentary it suddenly makes sense. The marketing potential is big.

They mentioned that they may have to use some pass-throughs but that they would try to avoid them as much as possible. I think one of the big difficulties will be buying gas. I also wonder why it is always people who have "never used bitcoin before" that try to live their lives using only bitcoin. Why not get to know how to use it first?

Collecting money for their marriage? Beggers
inb4 why begger? because they want to do marriage (which is fucking free) and live their live from other peoples money. They got 2 hards and legs to earn, but instead of using their own money and using bitcoin donation for a better cause they want to use donations themselves. What a selfish couple.
Peoples are dying from hunger and they need money for their marriage.
Fuck off

linuxer, you're an idiot. You fuck off. They're not using any kickstarter money for living expenses, 100% will go to the professional film crew which will work on the project for 6 months. The reason you're an idiot is that this was already clarified in this very small thread.
