Hi,

I just bought the following to start my first rig but the "POS" keeps rebooting itself.

Have the following:

Motherboard - ASUS PRIME Z270-A LGA 1151 Intel Z270 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Motherboards - Intel

Processor -  Intel G3930 Kaby Lake Dual-Core 2.9 GHz LGA 1151 51W BX80677G3930 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 610

PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower XT TPX-1375M 1375W ATX 12V 2.3 & SSI EPS 12V 2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

GPU - 4 Gigabyte 1080 8GB

RAM - Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB (1 x 8G) DDR4 2133 Desktop Memory DIMM (288-Pin) RAM HX421C14FB2/8

SSD HD - Win 10 pro

Raisers - PCE164P-N07 VER 007 - PCI-E 1X TO 16X

Troubleshoot.

Tried just one GPU without risers and when I start "nicehash" PC reboots.
Tried different slots, same thing happens.
Tried just one GPU with riser same thing PC reboots once I start nicehash.
If I add all 4 cards it finds just 3 GPU on device manager but PC reboots after a few seconds on.

No idea what's causing the PC to reboot, I would guess is the PSU or the MB.

Any advice?

Thanks.

First piece of advice is to post this in the proper section so that people running GPU rigs actually see it.

Second piece of advice is to replace Windows with a proper OS.

Also you need to define what type of reboots. Is windows blue screening? Is it forcing a normal reboot? Are you losing power and just blanking out?

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

Sorry if I posted to the wrong section.

PC reboots like  losing power and just blanking out and restart.

What's a good OS to use?

I watched a few videos from bitsbetrippin and he uses Win10.

Thanks,

https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

upgrade bios firmware then reinstall windows 10

otherwise you can tryout with ubuntu, or nvoc.

But it should work just fine with latest win10.

Also don't forget latest drivers 388 and all files needed for miners to run properly.

I had an Asus B250F Strix gaming which can support up to 6 cards with the same processor you have and RAM you do. I can tell you that in the beginning I did have lots of problems with it. With latest Windows update and switching from Nicehash to Winminer I am having good result and not restarts like I used too.

What you need to do to find out where is the problem

1. Update to latest Windows update, after updating check in search box "winver" to see if you have version 1709 which is latest update.
2. Install Winminer http://winminer.com/
3. Choose Specific coin here and mine Zcash only as that the best coin to mine for your GPU-s.

See if any improvements and report back, no need to switch OS, Win 10 Pro is great for mining once you set it up like you should.

I'd guess its the PSU, its not that great and has multiple rails.  For mining you just want one 12v rail.

I have several of these running both Windows and nvOC and they are rock stable.  Make sure to set your BIOS as follows:

Advanced/Platform Misc Configuration - Everything Disabled
Advanced/System Agent (SA) Configuration/Graphics Configuration/Leave alone
Advanced/System Agent (SA) Configuration/Graphics Configuration/DMI/OPI Configuration / DMI Max Link Speed = Gen2
Advanced/System Agent (SA) Configuration/Graphics Configuration/PEG Port Configuration / Gen2, Gen2, Auto
Advanced/PCH Configuration/PCI Express Configuration/Gen2
Advanced/PCH-FW Configuration/PTT Configuration/PTP aware OS = Not PTP Aware
Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration/HD Audio Controller = Disabled
Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration/M.2_1 Configuration = Auto
Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration/M.2_2 Bandwidth Configuration = X2
Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration/RGB LED Lighting/In Sleep, hibernate and soft off states = Off
Advanced/APM Configuration/Restore AC Power Loss = Power On
Boot/Above 4G Decoding = Enabled
Boot/Secure Boot/Key Management/Clear Secure Boot Keys = YES

I use the same risers, but have seen about a 5% failure rate, so it could be a bad riser.  I also run with the G3930 without issues but have since switched to G4600 on my 8x 1080Ti rigs.

Bios has the same configuration as crazydane and I'm running latest windows 10 with all updates.

If I try to run just one GPU into the PCIe slot / no raiser PC still reboots. Changed slots, same thing.

It's really frustrating buying a new hardware that doesn't work.

Will try with Win10 Home edition instead of Pro.

My 270-A motherboard bios needs to have certain setting enabled for more than 3 gpu to work.  But thats probably not the issue here.

Definitely try a different power supply

Just reinstalled everything again.

New WIN 10 Home edition.

Now the MOBO looks stable at least it's not rebooting. I'm using just one GPU at this moment.

If i go into device manager I do see the Geforce GTX 1080 there but there an event saying that windows has stopped this device because it has reported a problem (code 43)

I did uninstalled the current driver and installed one from Geforce website. Nvidia V 388.00 but after I reboot the PC I'm getting same issue.

Any ideas? Could someone provide the the driver link?

At this point my mining rig still not working.

I have replaced the PSU , replaced the MB and same thing happens.

Stupid MB reboots without any GPU on it.

This week I received another MB from Asus, same model but it's doing the same thing over and over.
I'm trying to run the MB just with CPU/DIMM and Keyboard installed and still reboots itself.  Tried without DIMM and does reboot itself sometimes too.

Now can't even set Bios as it reboots by itself when I'm into bios settings.
Just unbelievable.

My next plan will be replacing the RAM.

In the mean time I have connected 3 GPUs into my own PC just to make some $ of it.

Even if you did the configuration just as crazydane showed the rig keeps rebooting. Either a bad RAM (rare case) but I would suggest to people to stop building mining rigs on motherboards which are not designed for mining. I wonder why you buy a Z270 chipset which costs quite some money when with the same money you can buy ASUS B250 MINING EXPERT a board dedicated to mining and I am sure it won't reboot.

Personally I have 2 MSI and 4 Gigabyte boards, both are having problems , they don't recognise more than 5 GPU-s with all Bios settings tweaked and they do have 6 PCIEX slots. With BIOSTAR TB250 PRO BTC which I build latest board it recognised 6 cards immediately and is running stable from a few days. Based on my personal experience I think miners should buy mining motherboards.

They most likely simply overheat. Try providing them extra cooling.
