Hi!
I've heard it's possible to scam people by creating your own token with the same name as an existing token (maybe right after ico) and selling it on p2p exchanges.
Is this true, and if so - are there ways to verify the authenticity of the token when buying?

I've personally never actually traded on a p2p platform before since Im still a crypto newbie.

Cheers

You can take help of etherscan.io for this, just go to view token button they have on menu and enter token name you want to search. When you will click on those token you can see official contract address for that token. As etherscan verifies detail of every token that is popular so you will be in safe side if you don't trade tokens that are not listed or recognized by etherscan.

On the waves dex, you always use the Waves Token Id thats given by the ico

Example - ASSETRON ENERGY - https://tokensale.assetron.energy/address/

OK, good to know! But if it's just hours after the ico started then it might not be popular enough yet for etherscan to list it?

OK nice. But that only applies to the ICOs distributing their tokens using Waves, right?
I've never used waves and haven't looked into it much.

This is very common of WavesDex, this ne of the reason I don't like the exchange, I almost fall for it too with Enigma token, what helped me was the token size, I just look at it and feel something is not write with the price i saw

My activity tokens are legit as it gets, no body is buying it or even replicating it to scam people, LS(laughing slowly). at least for once I beg of you, try to mention my token, it has a nice concept. theymos might copy my idea and implements it on the  forum, there you have your authenticity. again LS.
I wont tell you that you could check asset identifier, and or smart contract address.

You always have to be very careful and double check and triple check that the asset that you find on exchange is really the one you think it is.

I only see tokens with same name in the wave platform. Not sure about Ethereum tokens and I haven’t seen any same name tokens in Ethereum yet.

They wouldn't be the same name, just similar spelling. E.g. Bitcoin, bitkoin or bitcion or btc something that doesn't completely scream its wrong. But Waves regularly verifies real tokens and with ICOs just as with Ethereum, make sure you go through the ico website to get tokens.
