It seems that BitInstant is no longer taking cash deposits for Bitcoin purchases. Supposedly their new site will be up Real Soon Now.

Meanwhile, I'm looking for an alternative way to purchase bitcoins. I've been searching all afternoon, and it seems that buying Bitcoins in the U.S. isn't nearly as easy as it should be! So far the best idea I've found is to try and but them through this forum. But I'm having trouble searching up vendors that are still providing the service.

Can someone offer some advice, or perhaps direct me to some reputable vendors? Thanks so much in advance Smiley

Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.

Did you look through exchanges?  CampBX is one, they offer Dwolla and ACH options for USD deposits.

CoinBase is another, but they are not really for trading like CampBX is.  However, they offer totally free ACH deposits/withdrawals of USD.

Wanna send coins my way? 1BY2rZduB9j8Exa4158QXPFJoJ2NWU1NGf or just scan the QR code in my avatar.  :-)

Thanks for the suggestions, guys Smiley

I checked into Dwolla, but funding time is SO long. Then my understanding is that I'd need to transfer to another site to do exchanges? CampBX does look ok as far as exchanges go. I assume Dwolla-mtgox isn't an option LOL!

So that option looks like time consuming setup, followed by a delay of several days EACH time I want to fund. Workable and cheap, but far from desirable. I'll give it a test run at the very least though.

Localbitcoins I tried several months ago, and there weren't many providers in my area. I'll have a look at it again. I think It was gonna be a big hassle to meet up with the vendor before. Maybe there's a bit more choice now.

They look back up now with a new design - I think they we're just redesigning their website.

At the moment you shouldn't even be able to deal in USD. They've shutdown all USD transactions.

Looks like the USA has finally shut down Bitcoin in that country. Page from Gox: https://mtgox.com/press_release_20130620.html

Most cash deposits are currently processing with no problem.  If you have an issue please describe it in detail at support.bitinstant.com so we can try to help.  Thanks.
