I have a very practical question:

I'd like to split the Bitcoins that I had prior to the Bitcoin Gold fork to collect my free Bitcoin Gold coins.
I'm using electrum 2.9.2, which claims to automatically detect different networks after a fork.

I currently can't seem to find this fork yet in electrum wallet (despite following their procedure). Am I doing something wrong, or am I just to early?

I'd like to dump my free BTG as soon as possible before the BTG price drops even further than it has.

Kr,
Sofien

I don't think BitcoinGold is live yet. I'm not sure when they will actually, i thought it was going to be next monday??

Either way they only took a snapshot yet, to distribute the coins when the fork actually happens.. There has been no chain split yet.

So yes, you're just too early.

If you want to make sure you've configured everything right in electrum, checkout this guide. http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/hardfork.html

The only way I'm seeing on how to claim BTG is via their website getbtcgpu.org and I haven't come across a method in which we'd be able to use an electrum wallet to get our share of the fork. Also, it seems that the network and the coin isn't live yet, so that ends its very short lifetime in the cryptoworld as the fork isn't really well thought out.

it is NOT their website. most probably a scam website!

bitcoin gold does not yet exist. their fork is a little bit different from others such as bitcoin cash. what they did was that they took bitcoin's blockchain from start until block height 491407 and when they release their coin in the future (probably in a month from now) they will build on top of that.

It is indeed a scam website (a pretty obvious one).

Be careful when suggesting websites to Newbies.

Meanwhile, this one is open source and looks to be legit[1]. Just download the source, disconnect from the internet and run locally.
(P.s: You can't use it yet, since Bitcoin Gold isn't live)

BTG will only become available in November, if I remember correctly. Any sites promising to give you some right here and now are most likely scam.

Drop as related to what?

It's currently traded (in future markets) at 0.03BTC, e.g. at Yobit.

Future markets aren't reality mate. It will sure drop just as BCC/BCH did but it doesn't mean price won't rise again.

Kr,

he himself did not fully enter into this question and I hope that I will find an answer here on this question!

You can use the Electrum Gold wallet for bitcoin gold  https://www.electrum-gold.org

This site is distributing malware. The Microsoft codesigning is fraudulent (lists briz.khamazin@yandex.ru) . The source code download is just a ZIP bomb. Do not use.

You report a scam website by indicating the use of another scam site.  Smiley

John-Dass is probably a moniker for John Dumb Ass.

The website is down and the github removed after the 3+ million dollar theft.

Okay, simplest way, find all your private keys that contains BTG, click on reveal private key, and copy that private key into an online QR code generator site. Make sure that there are no more funds in that address anymore.

Then, go download coinomi, and add bitcoin gold, then scan the QR code.

Then you should receive your BTG, you can convert it using changelly/changenow.

Coinomi only works on Android phones. Are there any other options to sweep private keys?

No others that are considered 'safe' at this time.

Even bitcoingold.org download is immediately killed by virus scanners.  Hard to trust the site anyway after they recommended a site which ended up stealing a lot of money.

It's worth your time to check your addresses that contained a balance on 10/24 and import those into coinomi.  Just did it myself for a couple of people.
More importantly, move out your BTC and BCH first.

I already moved my BTC out, with the intention of sweeping my BTG keys into Coinomi. Then I went to download the app -- Android only. I only have IOS phones and an old Windows phone (pre Windows 10, so can't run Android apps).

So I guess I'm shit outta luck.....

Somebody should make a MEW clone so people can push BTG transactions given their private keys. Hell, the BTG devs really should have hired someone to fork Electrum!

Coinomi works.  I can verify that.

You're not shit out of luck.   You could send me the private keys (since you moved your BTC and BCH out, and I can get and move them for you.
or
You can get an android device to do it.
or
You can do it via a chrome addon and install the app.

Of course, the main reason that most of us make mistakes is because we are not familiar with wallets. I would recommend that in order to get BCH, BTG, BCD users to put BTC deposits in the exchange, such as binance and Hitbtc, and the withdrawal fee is very low, they will help us to solve all this without our own hands .
