Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

So you didn't hear anything about the spoofed emails, and yet still thought it prudent to post these lame reasons for the price adjustment?

This article states that enthusiasm for bitcoins dropped with the introduction of other currencies like e-gold. e-gold, which started in 1996. And was shut down in 2009. Yup.
