quad 7970 mining rig - mobo

So I'm planning to put together this rig with four 7970s

But one thing bugs me about this build, maybe I'm missing something here, but the motherboard seems way too cheap considering the other components in there
Normally I don't skimp on motherboards in a system build because it's limitations determine the upgradability and useful life of a machine

Or is there no advantage to using a better motherboard for mining?

It's capable of running PCIe 2.0 x16/x8/x8/x4

Whereas the ASRock mobo from the guide is only capable of running  PCIe 2.0 x8/x8/x4/x1

Wouldn't that make a difference in GPU intensive activities like mining?

I have the same mobo - but you will need pci entenders - there's no way you can fit 4 double slot gpu's in this mobo without extenders.

I have no problem with the risers, as I understand it, the powered ones are from 1x -> 16x PCI-e so I plan to get four of those (one for each card)

I just want to make sure if the 1x to 16x Powered Riser Cables dont diminish the hashing rate of the cards connected to them? I suppose they dont but just want to make sure

No, the 1x slots have no effect on hash rates. The full 16x bandwidth is needed if you are using the card for video games.

If you plan to use this rig for bitcoin mining, do you realize that the monthly profits they report on that webpage are from April 2013? The difficulty has more than doubled since then, and it is likely to be 2.5 times as high within a week.

Only if you plan to mine litecoin (or any scrypt based altcoin) this rig has a usage.
For bitcoin mining is useless , asic miners are here.

you could just get a asic and convert with BTC-E to LTC and still be vastly more profitable then a gpu rig.

so there is no difference between mining bitcoin or litecoin at the moment.
