New Project Review — Themis (GET)



Themis is a UK-based, one-year old company seeking to provide a blockchain- based payment platform that allows users to fairly exchange cryptocurrencies, digital assets and physical goods in an OTC decentralized manner. Themis will store funds in escrow while goods or services are delivered, and the funds are released once the delivery has been confirmed by both parties. The blockchain also includes decentralized peer mediating, and Themis will be used in P2P digital currency payments, as well as in high volume OTC (over-the-counter) cryptocurrency trading, exchange and group the escrow protocol with an anonymous reputation scheme.

As many of you are deeply involved in crypto markets, there is no need for us to tell you that it has been an extremely tough quarter for everyone. BTC declined close to 75% from the highs, many alts are down 80% or more. As in any business, especially in a new and rapidly evolving space, there are many challenges, some known and some completely unknown. Many of them are unfortunately beyond our control. We faced a few of these head on in Q1/Q2, including regulatory and business.

We have completed financials for Q2, and there will not be a profit sharing distribution this quarter since the company did not have a profitable quarter, although we have outperformed the markets and had better results than a number of other funds with a lot more resources. We summarized our performance and market outlook below.

We are true believers in this space, and when Caviar was born, the partners put up their own personal capital to start the business without recouping any of it to date. We are long on this space in general, and believe blockchain and crypto will continue to grow and prosper. We have been compelled to develop strategies this quarter that can be profitable during market downturns, but we and our community will be here when the market reversal happens, and will capitalize on what we have built thus far, regardless of market conditions.
