I think it's too late to use usb miner. It's not profitable anymore and maybe you send the rest of your life mining without reaching 1 btc.

Too many pools and competitors out there, Better get a rig if you wanna mine BTC and join a pool.
Or look into mining other cryptos with some interesting upside potential and see it as a longer term investment, or try buying cheap masternodes of starting POS/POW coins agiain with potential and growing communities.

I havent had any luck.. used one for fun but I agree its not very profitable or even worth the setup.. was just interested in the tech more than anything else.. but I doubt thats going to happen in your lifetime.

I'd say it was nearly impossible. Only way to see any return at all from a USB miner would be in a pool and you wouldn't see a very big return. You would probably be better off mining an alt coin with growth potential

A Gekkoscience 2pac will give you about 10Gh/s out of the box and can be overclocked to about 25Gh/s. So not alot in the grand scheme of things.....

I am pretty sure that is impossible thing to do. The old days when you could easily make 0,05 Btc per week with USB mining at home are gone and you're lucky today if you make at least 0,004 a year. Some online stores still sell those usb mining just for fun or for collectors who like those trinkets. I myself had one of those that I used as a keyring of a schoolbag.

A Gekkoscience 2pac will give you about 10Gh/s out of the box and can be overclocked to about 25Gh/s. So not alot in the grand scheme of things.....

25 GH/s gives you a 1 in 320 million chance of finding the next block. Note that the odds of winning the Powerball lottery jackpot are slightly better (1 in 292 million).

The odds of finding at least one of the 144 blocks mined in a day is 1 in 2 million. The odds of finding at least one block after mining for a year is 1 in 6000.

You are just playing lottery my friend, you are hoping to mine a block with a very underpowered computer and that is simply not going to happen, you are going to get more profits by simple selling that hardware and buy bitcoin with it, the time where you could mine with that equipment is over.

lol, Don't think they were ever profitable.  USB are sold as a gimmick because the ASIC chips are small and sort of "because you can" attitude and novelty.  I remember sales for bundles of the first (antminer?) with a multiport USB hub, power and a USB fan, their price was too high to return profits.  Really they were intended as fun/keeping the network distributed.  They are fun, interesting way to get into mining, but chances of finding a block?  $100 on local lottery (or bitcoins  ) a better bet.

Mining with an USB miner is just a waste of money and time. It's nearly imposible for an usb miner to solve a block thechances would be 1 over a billion. I would prefer that usimg Antminers if you do want to mine some bitcoin nor altcoins.

You have to have an extreme amount of sheer luck to hit a block with such a low hashrate nowadays. Even a single S9 is hard to hit those blocks given that there are tons of mining farms doing the hashing everyday. But it'd be cool if someone comes up with proofs stating that they solo mined a block with just a USB miner since it gives luck and randomness on mining a new statement, but we knkw that that wouldn't happen, not in this instance of reality we live in.

I remember having my 3x Gridseed way back 2015 and I love those little things. Sadly I have to turn it off since it only produces heat and not actual money for me.

USB miners have too small hashrate. Even if you had tens of them, you wouldn't earn much anyway. It's too late to use USB miners. Now ASICs like Antminer matter in the mining world. The chance of mining a block solo is near zero. It's a waste of electricity in my opinion.

that's not the point of something like that though, it's just something youd set up and not even have to think about, and given that infinitesimal chance that you actually ended up finding the block, you'd just be rewarded a hundredfold for something you spent pocket change on. it's a fun little thing you just keep going, and if i still had my usb miner i would probably set it up too.

i think you misunderstood; the topic is about attempting to solo mine with an obsolete setup, not on a pool. and even then, with a laptop and a 2 gh miner, i dont think you would even get more than 10 cents in a year the way things are looking right now. 50 dollars? fat chance.

They are using Asic miners now, with tera hashes don't think USB can still do it.

You are going up against odds worse than getting struck by lightning, or hitting the jackpot on a state lottery.

but as above suggests, you are hurting your opportunity cost by tying up your money in something with virtually no chance of roi. if you can do this at someone elses expense (power I mean), it STILL really wouldnt be worth it. You have the approximate snowball's chance in hell to hit this naturally. but it is possible, just good god almighty improbable that you will.

now if you sold that miner and saved that electricity, you could invest into an emerging, promising alt coin (not a shit coin!)

exact, and over time will be required of more powerful machines, even the current ones such as Bitmain Antminer L3 + 504MH / s start to not be so profitable.

A few months ago someone took a recent model Macbook Air and tried mining with it. It took 33 hours to earn 1 satoshi. Since then the difficulty has climbed quickly (we just had a 21% difficulty increase), so it would be many more hours for 1 satoshi now.
