Procedure in case of Blockchain.info collapse

I have some Bitcoin in a Blockchain.info wallet and am concerned about how accesible my funds will be in the event of Blockchain suddenly going offline and the site not available. 

Let's imagine that the site is no longer there, can anyone give me the steps needed to get access to my Bitcoin? Is it even possible?

Blockchain.info offers you the option to export (backup) your private keys. You should do that right now.
Once you have your private keys, you can import them to another wallet such as Electrum, and your wallet will be restored just fine even if they go down (assuming you have your private keys before they do).

Otherwise no. It is only possible to access your wallet and obtain your private keys through their service.

You need to keep your 12 words seed/phrase safe, and if blockchain.info goes down you just need to make a new wallet on electrum using that seed and select bip39 option.

Then maybe you are not looking well enough. You can export your private keys from their site to ensure that you own your bitcoins and only you have the authority/control over it.  Also as for blockchain.info getting buggy, they are notoriously known for it, and because of that same reason I've stopped using their site for my hot wallets since the risk isn't worth it.

You should just convert to desktop wallets and manage everything yourself. Exporting your private keys via a website doesn't sound the most secure way. So I would advise sending your coins to a desktop wallet

This is the fear you'll always have if you keep using a web-wallet, because you don't full control over your wallet. Having your coins stored in a cloud managed by a 3rd party will always represent a huge risk. And there's a reason why bitcoin.org doesn't have them listed as a safe wallet.

I don't use blockchain.info so i'm not sure what you can do if something bad happens but, if you value your bitcoins, stop using blockchain.info right now and start using Electrum on your PC, it's safer, faster and more efficient, and more importantly, you have absolute control over your wallet. Just remember to save your 'seed' (random phrase used to generate your private keys) in a secure location, write it down on a piece of paper and put it in a safe or something.

You're right to be worried. My suggestion is to download a Bitcoin wallet and transfer the Bitcoin into it so that you don't have to worry about a third party about Blockchain.info suddenly disappearing.

Blockchain.info will be around for a very, very long time. It is not going to go out of business anytime soon, that is for sure. It is run by the highest up in the Bitcoin world, and also Google invested $40,000,000 into it not long ago. If a site like that goes down then certainly Bitcoin would fail, because too many people would be tired of losing their hard-earned money over and over again.

Maybe it will, but I'm not looking for reassurance about Blockchain.info, I'm looking for detailed instructions regarding getting my private keys from Blockchain. Is there not at least one person in this forum who has an account at Blockchain who knows how this is done?

Despite what others have written. Blockchain.info does not have access to your seed, private keys, or bitcoins. Only you have access to your blockchain.info wallet. That is why it is so important to back it up.

the instructions are exactly what you need to do.

you get your recovery phrase which is BIP32 if i am not mistaken, then in case blockchain.info was no longer among us and you needed to recover your private keys. you take these steps.
- you go to this website: https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/
- at the bottom of the page there is the link to Github: https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39
- you take a copy of the project to run offline: https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39#standalone-offline-version
- now you go offline on a clean computer, for example a live linux which you boot from a DVD.
- open the file you just downloaded and enter your recovery phrase in BIP39 Mnemonic
- scroll down to Derivation Path and select the BIP32 path, choose the blockchain.info in the Client dropdown combobox
- in other words this will set derivation path to m/44'/0'/0' which is used by blockchain.info
- scroll down and see all your keys under Derived Addresses


a suggestion:
create a new blockchain.info wallet now (as a throwaway empty wallet for testing). do all these steps and test to see if you encounter any issues. you should see the same addresses the blockchain.info generates for you.

Ha ha. Those are instructions for making a wallet backup, not a backup wallet.

Write down your seed and import it into another wallet. It's as easy as that.

no, it is no that easy at all!
each of these different wallets use a different method of generating a seed (recovery phrase or whatever each of them call it). which means you should know which derivation path they used for it to be able to recover your private keys. otherwise importing the seed you may end up having a whole different set of addresses.

there is also  the fact that if you have created another sub-wallet in your account using the same seed. then the derivation path will have a /1/ or /2/ and so on at the end and again you end up with a whole set of different keys.

Go to the settings>security and you will see a option Wallet Recovery Phrase there. Then just click the Backup Phase you will get 12 words phase and that is the privet key/wallet recovery phase you should keep that safe. And the other important thing is any imported addresses are not backed up by the wallet recovery phrase.

Why not just generate a receive address using a desktop client, then send everything to that address?
