Wow 4,50 each transaction, that is so high mate, but the fees were not so high a few days ago, i dont understand why it is happening. Well, maybe it is because the difficulty of mining has increased to 21% in the last few hours, but it shouldn't change the fees. Maybe the miners are so congestioned and they can not proccess that payment and this is why the fees are so high.
Anyway, i sent a payment yesterday and it only costed me $1,20, and it got confirmed in 20 minutes.

The fees are pretty high right now, i sent a payment worth of $50 about two hours ago, and i paid about $3 for that transaction, maybe it is not a huge amount of money, but it is almost a 8% of what i sent to that guy.
But it is more cheaper than Xapo fees, i just saw them two weeks ago and a Normal Transaction was about $8 each one, that is insane, and the priority was about $12 for each one.
Of course that the fees depends on how the blockchain is going, but i think that all this issue is because the notices that the miners received today.

The fastest and cheapest transaction fee is currently 300 satoshis/byte, shown in green at the top.
For the median transaction size of 226 bytes, this results in a fee of 67,800 satoshis.
I think this is the highest rate since last aug fork, perhaps even in the last six months
any idea what drives it so high? isn't november fork still in 2 weeks or so?
do miners switch side temporarily to mine BTG for quick profits?

Oh man, that's horrible.  And I mean that.  Are you using a wallet where you
can adjust the fee?

It's stuff like this that makes bitcoin a bad currency.  You could just as easily send
someone money overseas using PayPal and pay a very small fee at most.  I just sent
something the other day with a fee of like 0.0007BTC, and the transaction has yet
to confirm once.  It's probably going to get shot back to my wallet and I'll have to
send it again with a ridiculously high fee.  It sucks, I agree with you.

it's way too much . i pay higher on fees than the amount i'm sending to people
and i work a lot with bitcoin on small amounts..

The solution for this is: pay using ETH , then convert it to BTC using changelly.
What a great site is changelly! brings al ot of value.

This looks to me a simple way of promotion. I think you are one member of changelly or a paid advertiser using posts here in the forum. The fees that bitcoin is asking in each transaction is getting really high. We have been experiencing this for some time already. That is why many people would advice not use bitcoin in small transactions such as buying a cup of coffee. But if you are determined to use it for such transactions, then you also have to accept the high fees.

You can always choose to send less yes it won't be as quick to confirm but at the end of the day this is how bitcoin works and will never change. Bitcoin miners need an incentive to pass a transaction and higher fees are going to do that.

If you don't mind waiting a few hours then just pay a smaller fee.

I think that the fee that you are paying is over beyond the average fee that should be paid for your transaction to be included at the next block.
You should be checking out the wallet that you are using, check up the settings, there should be an option to adapt transaction fees based on the current network status.

If you are creating your transactions by your own, you should be checking the following website:

https://bitcoinfees.21.co/

It gives you real updates about recommend fee for transactions based on it's size in bytes.

The fee's are more favorable to bigger amounts, it's very annoying making smaller transactions.

The transaction fees are raging due to several factors.
One is the size of the block in Bitcoin's blockchain, which is limiting the number of transactions that can go through at any given time.
Bitcoin's network is powered by miners, people and companies who use a tremendous amount of computing power to create new bitcoins.
And when there's too many transactions to process which currently happens very often miners will prioritize transactions that pay a higher fee.

Using Altcoin is a good alternative to lower the transaction cost, yes changelly is a good exhanger,
me I used Poloniex as online wallet, 0.0001btc fee for bitcoin transaction.(I don't know how fast the transaction is, i never monitor it)

If you buy a coffee, you pay the $2 (btc) for the coffee:  $2 + $4 fee = $6, in those hours it would be better to use physical money... bitcoin needs have low fee and have faster confirmations, the days ago I stayed many hours waiting to confirm transaction, it was annoying

The fee's are more favorable to bigger amounts, it's very annoying making smaller transactions.

and this is a problem because in real life there are things that are not expensive and how will the person pay for bitcoin with these high fee?

About 2 days ago mining Bitcoin Cash became more profitable than Bitcoin and miners flocked to Bitcoin Cash. Bitcoin blocks slowed down and mempool (unconfirmed transactions) started to increase. Check here: https://blockchain.info/es/unconfirmed-transactions
In about 1 hour 20min Bitcoin Cash will become unprofitable again, so everything will come back to normal.

The solution: if you're not in a hurry you can always lower the fees, it'll take more time, yes, but eventually it will go through. Check out the site bitcoinfees.21.co. Could be helpful next time.

I heard there is a fork coming in which the devs are trying to reduce the fee and speed the transaction time. Dont know if its really correct or not but if it happens this will really boost bitcoin. I know lot of people who uses altcoins to avoid huge fees at the moment.

^^100% incorrect..

Unfortunately the problem with high fees is one of Bitcoins biggest problems. They are crazy, I tried sending $50 the other day, and I couldn't because the network fees were super high. Bitcoin is now for the elite. For us broke people trying to make some money, its too late.

Yes, the fee is too high. If you make small transactions regularly then the fee is something worth saying. Sometimes, the money you earn is only slightly more than the fee paid. This is also something that people are eager to change and that is needed if we want btc is  widely used otherwise people will probably switch to ETH or some other kind of money.

The best solution i found now is  pay using ETH , then convert it to BTC using changelly. (something like 0.2$ fees) and its automatic.
Shapeshift is also take huge fees and blockchain.info support it to be part of their site. (don't use) .
What the hell kind of times are you sending your transactions at?

Why are you not setting your own fees and ignoring what Blockchain recommend completely?

I am paying something along the lines of $1 CDN at the absolute worst and when I want something to be done quickly. There is now way that you should be spending that amount of money on a transaction. But the fault is completely on you if you aren't using platforms to their full potential and making sure you're aware of every feature. Most wallets let you set your own fees and make sure that you're happy with what you're spending - Blockchain.info included.

Paying those fees are really such a pain but we've got no choice. Gone were the days that you can send funds to an exchanger free of charge. I often close my eyes upon sending so that I'm clueless about the charges  Grin

I think this will be addressed after the Segwit2x in which is aims is to reduce the processing time of every transactions and that will reduce the fees as well. This problem what due to high traffic in the block chain resulting to higher fees but if this will be addressed that if possible that transactions will become instantly or at least reduced, our service provider will earn big because the transaction flow will become smooth that they could now finish more transactions request which in result is to reduce their service fees.
