Well the title says it all.. I got paid in bitcoins knowing that somehow some way I would be able to convert it to cash, but how exactly is this done?
Is there a detailed instruction on how this is done?
And also are then any specific actions or sites that I should use that are recommended ?

Any assistance is highly appreciated thank you and have an awesome night.

You can try one of the exchanges such as mtgox.com or bitstamp.net.  But do try to spend your Bitcoins on transactions with those Bitcoin friendly merchants rather than just exchange for fiat currency.

You give them to me!  Cool

But, no theres lots of ways. You just have to be careful.

1. Find products to buy at bit market places
2. Find someone who pays for bitcoin

These are just few ways, I can go on. But, I`ll let you start thinking about it more.

The current price is still kinda low for you to sell, try wait for it to go over 150 or even 200 if you have time to wait.

Basically most replies are spot on, holding to wait for increased exchange rate or spending at bitcoin-accepting merchants is probably the best you can do.
Should you decide to exchange into fiat money, take care not to be scammed. Be extra careful if someone (especially newbies) in the forum approaches you and makes an offer that is too good to be true - it's most likely not true then.
Exchanging through an exchange site will take some time, but should be pretty safe if you use one of the reputable ones.
Localbitcoins.com is most likely the best option if you want to exchange person-to-person, but make sure you meet at a safe place.
Remember - don't get scammed :-)

if possible, set aside a portion of your coins and store them in paper wallet / cold storage as an investment for the future

I don't recommend you use an individual to do your transaction. SCAMMERs are abound on bitcointalk. You best use a proper exchange. I do warn you that you may have to wait to get verified. I suggest you use campbx.com. The waiting time for a verified account is much slower than MtGox.com.

best to you,

I hope your first BTC experience is a positive one.

Whatever you choose, don't use PayPal at all.  Also, if you deal with an individual make sure they are trusted or use escrow, or both.  Stop scammers. Be smart.  Welcome to the btc world!
