I had some strange things happened to me on Localbitcoins.com due to Google 2FA Software. I don't understand why companies are relying on this sort of software instead of the usual mobile number authentication.
Wonder if Google can remotely stop the software from generating the right Code

Mobile number authentication is rubbish, that's why they are shifting away from it.. If you change network, sometimes it fails to work and you never get an authentication code (has happened to me twice with google).
2FA is far superior and less prone to ownage.

Mobile phones can be lost whilst google authentication can be accessed on a internet connection.

Google 2FA seems to be one of the easiest and safest method for now, many people and websites now depend on it for some measure of security, until there is a better alternative, we have to work with it.

It's much safer than having no line of defense at all. It should not matter how safe it is. You should simply be taking every precaution available if you cannot afford to be pwned.

2FA is safe (according my experience). I think this is a genius idea and solution. Works very simple and the safety is in your hand.

Google Authenticator lacks multi-device support. Since Authy is available for Android, and iOS mobile devices, and for Windows, Apple Watch, and even your desktop, you can use Authy to stay protected from all devices simultaneously. Google Authenticator users are tied to a single device, so if you want to register a new phone or tablet, Google Authenticator automatically unregisters your current device.

Better alternative should probably be blockchain based. Centralized 2FA isn't actually good for Cryptocurrency. Google is notorious for censoring people they don't like. The 666 - like drawing on Google Chrome logo is enough to bear with.

If you're like me and don't like to use google authenticator, simply because there are better OTP apps out there, you can try the open source OTP App FreeOTP.

Google 2FA is the best authenticating method currently available. Is far better than SMS. Scammers can contact your network operator ,impersonate you and say they have been locked out so they should reset it for them. For 2FA, never can any scammer or bad man generate the code unless he has the phone.

I mean if you trust google then that's fine and it's probably secure but they are likely to leak details to the nsa.
