Iranians might not have to rely on potentially shady and risky purchases at Localbitcoins for much longer as the government of the country prepares its infrastructure to facilitate the free exchange of Bitcoins.
“The ministry of communications and information technology has already conducted a number of research studies as part of efforts to prepare the infrastructure to use Bitcoin inside the country,”
said Amir Hossein Davaee, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, during an interview with Shargh, the most popular reformist newspaper in Iran.
Iran currently has more than 40 million internet users, all of whom browse a restricted version of the web that—at this moment—bans Facebook, Twitter, and many Western news outlets. Despite all of this, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has an unusually open attitude towards Bitcoin.
Read more here...In geopolitics as in economic matters, there would always be surprises that can sometimes makes a person rethink all of his past assumptions. The same thing can be true here with Iran. We all know the kind of society which the Iranian regime has had been pursuing for many decades. They all want to have the control they need and they don't get easy on anything or anybody they might classify as a big threat (well even small threats are being dealt with).
The thing here is that of all countries it is Iran which is getting open-minded to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Of course, this decision must be based on something and that something should be working well for the country otherwise they would not be wasting their time and resources putting up the platform necessary to make Bitcoin legal in the country. They must have seen something with this new currency which they can easily use in case other countries can pursue economic sanctions against them.
For whatever reasons the country might have, it would be nice to see Iran joining the Bitcoin club! Welcome!
