It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Why would Amazon want a separate domain name instead of just including a page on their current site about an update?

Bitcoin platforms are full of this amazon rumors. I don’t personally care about it that much. Yes, I am happy with the price pump but that’s it. We will all forget about it in a week. If amazon announce that tomorrow, it is good for them. I rather spend my time on segwit2x case.

I'm not sure how you can say that Amazon accepting Bitcoin would be bigger than Segwit2x by a mile. Amazon has the potential to sell almost anything in the world for Bitcoin. Which would create a shockwave in the news internationally and would likely pump the price up a lot.

I don't think this move by Amazon means much. For the record, the following are the domains they acquired:
  • amazoncryptocurrencies.com
  • amazoncryptocurrency.com
  • amazonethereum.com

The truth is that many big corporations such as Amazon own a bunch of domains that they do not actually use whatsoever. Even if Amazon does eventually buy into the crypto craze in some way or adopt Bitcoin, it is unlikely these domains are ever to be used. Most likely, they only grabbed them to prevent misuse or phishing attacks by other malicious parties. You can look up different domains owned by a company and see how this is the normal practice. A Forbes article on the matter: https://www.forbes.com/sites/chrisbarth/2012/06/13/amazon-just-spent-millions-applying-for-domain-names-why/#a710c5566147.

The signature campaign posters adding useless redundant fluff to their posts to reach their minimum word count are lowering my IQ.

I actually think Amazon might be looking into selling cryptos, similar to Coinbase.

I wrote up a blog post with the details here if you want to read it.

http://jamescrypto.com/amazon-domains-are-they-looking-to-sell-crypto-currencies-to-their-millions-of-customers/

But the TLDR is that Amazon doesn't need to buy domains before cyber squatters. They can easily take back any domain that has their name in it via a process built into domain buying and ownership process. There is no need for them to buy up Amazon related domains just to hold them. So I think they do have plans for crypto.

The amazon engaging in cryptocurrency, rumors or truth is circulating in the forum for some time. But I will wait for any announcement or implementation before giving any reaction to this issues. But this domains means nothing but only a preparation or whatsoever but not an assurance of any actions afterwards.

Amazon might be a great market for bitcoin in the future and to merge it two will make more than a storm to take cryptocurrency in the next level and in new heights.i

I don't know if Amazon will actually accept or not but this looks much more like protecting their brand and traffic.
I don't think these domains are to accept crypto but rather prevent someone from registering the domains and capitalizing on their brand and the news

This. I don't understand why these news are so overvalued. Amazon is not known for leaking information that obivously. And with all that scam going on it is an obvious step to buy domains that may be used for further scam. They will accept Crypto at some point. But those domainnames don't have too much to do with it, I'd bet.

I agree.
Too much being ascribed to what actually doesn't mean anything.
