Whether using your personal computer or cloud mining? Or if you're purchased an additional piece of hardware to make the process fast and prosperous!!

cloudmining is not an option at all. not only 99% of them are scam ponzi but also they are not profitable at all with all the fees they take out of your payment.

as for individuals mining at home, people usually go for mining altcoins rather than bitcoin because buying a couple of good GPUs is much easier than buying a brand new ASIC miner specially if you are not in China Smiley
additionally altcoins are easier to mine, get pumped a lot and can potentially be more profitable to mine with smaller equipment (like 1 GPU instead of a rig for instance).

No, I have been warned to never invest money in cloud mining and the AuroraMine is the perfect example of cloudmining scam, it only opened for few weeks and went scam
Mining using personal computer is very expensive, it cost around $5000 just for the equipment, so I still cant afford to buy such expensive stuff

I am interested in mining too, I almost bought a GPU rig to build form GPU shack, then saw that I can get a D3 from Bitmain. Then I read that the D3 mining is crashing. So then I went to but a Antminer L3+ but Bitmain's conversion ration is robbery on the BCH to USD conversion.

Now I am back to the start, what to mine, with what hardware. I am not looking to become rich from it, just pay back my gear and make enough money to buy a coffee a a day or something.

After a few weeks researching, I am more lost.

In addition to cloudmining, the ROI takes months. Also, they have this weird terms & conditions. If you purchase a lifetime contract, it is not actually a "lifetime" since they can terminate it. They also have this questionable deduction in your incomeeven if the price of bitcoins go higher (since they take a fix amount of bitcoins for maintenace in dollars. I think this logic doesn't need any elaboration).

I tried to mine from my Mac laptop for a day or so with little to no result. I don't think ill bother to mine anything more from my own computer. Maybe rent some hash power online, but ill guess I will stick to trading instead..

Mining bitcoins for ordinary people now have no sense. Once there ASIC, there will be next to no profit from mining with GPU.
It's better to look into mining altcoins where there is no ASIC for now.

Impossible to say precisely how many people are mining these days, but I risk saying not too many. I don't think people are still mining at home like years ago, there are probably few people doing this. The mining businesses have taken control of the market, but I don't think there are many investors on this business too. As an example Genesis Mining, they have 76K followers on FaceBook, let's say it's 1/5 of their total users, total 380.000 users and many of them probably have already gave up about receiving their investment back.

Mining is being profitable for the businesses owners, not for the independent miners.

Which altcoins are good to mine with GPU? Someone told me that Vertcoin would be a good coin to mine with a home computer is that true?

Don't look for daily income, when you do mining just hold until you satisfied in your profits. Some miners always looking for daily profits

Mining is a good way to understand the general mechanisms of crypto. Start small, and decide if you want to go big.

Also, if you have pets or live in a very dusty area, consider the cost to keep your hardware clean.

i'm mining with gpu rig's...i had luck few month's when i started GPU mining for geting my investmen back very quick...not even 4 month needed...the price for ETH was good and dificulty was very low...now this would take 12 months just to get investment back withou electricty cost...
on my info most of people are minning ETH, ETC, monero,...some of them are mining new altcoins just to get quantity of it and crossing their fingers that price will get high Wink Wink Wink
check whattomine.com site and play little bit around with it...

Currently owning a small farm of 1060s and 1070s and some gridseeds that i can't unhook since I've been used to its noise from a year of its operation. I've also tried to cloudmine on cex.io 2 years ago but i've made more money trading my shares rather than expecting to receive my daily income mining. If you want to look into mining, go to the route of GPUs since it's more flexible compared to ASICs in terms of the coins that you can mine.
