Why is etherum's price dropping?

Now it's bitcoin time. Most of people sell they altcoins, including ETH to buy bitcoin. Price goes and goes up, but soon will be correction.

It's worth to add than ETH is a very promising coin, with a great roadmap, so if you have ETH just hold it.

price of anything is based on supply and demand and we all know how huge is the supply of ethereum with more than 95 million coins available and not maximum to stop it.

the demand is also decreasing as time goes by and there are less ICOs for people to buy with their ETH tokens so there is no more reason to buy ethereum anyways.

on top of it bitcoin is rising and that puts all the altcoins down. and ethereum has not been doing well for a long time, ever since the price was pumped up to 0.14BTC ethereum has been free falling slowly.

i dont really know that.maybe its because of that;Eth s is unlimited,it has no limit to produce like tether but mosr of coins like bitcoin got a limit.it can be affected price i think

It is really hard for people who had invested in altcoins in anticipation of getting the better return and now btc price is being moving a high and altcoins value falling back. Thus in the same time if invested in btc it would have provided them some great profits and now people are struck thinking to hold or to sell and invest back in btc.

there are so many factors especially right now that we see so many developments in the space. To start with, BTC is about to fork which has the effect of everyone buying into it, altcoins are usually dropping during such days. In addition you have CME group which wants to offer BTC to institutional investors which is huge (the least), there have been many talks about institutional investors getting involved into the Blockchain and this is it basically. The biggest futures and derivatives trading group is offering exactly that. It's expected that the market will react by buying more BTC, because when these investors have access to BTC, it will drive its price up even more. So whoever has some Ethereum is selling it to buy BTC, to answer your questions, and by doing so ETH is depreciating while BTC is appreciating. Don't worry though, the markets will correct sooner or later and we'll be likely see a retract of BTC and more buys into Alts.

It might be because btc price is going up. Also, because people are buying altcoins with their ethereum. It might even be because holidays are coming up soon and they are trading it to fiat currency. It will go up and up again for sure

Not only ETH but most of the promising altcoins like the NEO, OMG, XRP, LTC, XMR are going down from the past few months.
The obvious reason behind this is Bitcoin. The forks are adding the liquor in the fire in a way through free cons. People are aiming for free coins rather than holding the altcoins. That is why Bitcoin is keeping on increasing in price whereas Altcoins are decreasing in price.
I was also holding ETH but seeing the dump in Altcoins I myself decided it would be better to sell it off immediately.

Well it is true, since 5 (five) hours ago until now bitcoin price is still high, of course this is good news for bitcoin fans especially who invest here, maybe this is the main reason etherum price down.

what got me thinking though is when will the rise of btc finally drop to maybe $5K. because to me it looks like is overbought already. i'd be very thankful if it happen today as I'm already to buy some altcoins I have been watching since they day its price dip.
