If this is the first time you are using it you can bootstrap it by downloading the blockchain torrent: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=145386.0Otherwise the best approach is to always have it running in the background so that it is always synced. You can set it to run at system start up. If none of the above works for you get a wallet like electrum that does not need a local copy of the blockchain.

The best way is to fire up your out-of-sync client, go to the console, and unlock the wallet, then dumprivkey [address] - import this key into one of the thin clients or into an online wallet, and you can spend your coins.

They're there, in their room. Your mining rig is on fire, yet you're very calm.

Upgrade your CPU, it is bounded by I/O otherwise after it syncs it will not take this much time, this is the just the first time you sync.

Actually, the bound is most likely:
1) network 2) cpu 3) disk/memory
But there's no point because by the next day, it would have synced anyways. There's no magic bullet that can reduce sync times. Therefore, it's futile trying to speed it up because you will not get ROI on your time.

Still not opened up guys, what should I do? I agreed to send a member on the forum 75btc for pr work and I can't get this opened...I'm a firefighter and i'm on duty now, is there a hero member on here that offers ssh services?
What is your machine's specifications? Also, what connection speed do you have? If you don't have a fast processor, hard drive, and connection, you're better off dumping private keys and using a lite client. Also, I'm a hero member and I can SSH.

keep in mind you have to use "connect=198.74.53.233" so your client only connects to that node. Otherwise your client will connect to other nodes, and possibly download blocks from a slower node.

Mine takes about 10 minutes. Must be something slow about your computer. Norton Virus? Tons of programs in your start up?

A few things to try:
- Make an exclusion in the Antivirus software for bitcoin folders and files
- Set up port forwarding if UPNP is not working
- Delete the blockchain related dat files and resync.
Hope it helps
