Hi everyone

I realise I am new here, and forums rely on give and take but I have little technical know how. Being a forum regular in various other worlds like art and fashion I hope to appeal to the forum for some help.

I just realised I bought some bitcoin in 2014 and forgot about it

I am useless at this stuff but seems I may still be able to access them?

All i have is an email from blockchain.info with an attachment ( wallet.aes.json)and the followiing text

"Attached to this email is an AES encrypted wallet backup which contains everything you need to restore your bitcoin balance. You can use it to restore the wallet at anytime at My Wallet or using the 3rd party MultiBit Desktop client
your wallet identifier is XYZ1234"

is this enough of a start to track my coins down please?

I really am no good with this stuff so seek an honest forum regular to try and assist

thanks again

Ducky

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/19xzpt/how_can_i_use_the_blockchaininfo_walletaesjson/ maybe have a look a this.

But yeah should be enough, from my understanding you should download the Multibit Desktop client (wallet) and import the files into it. Not entirely sure how this goes as I don't use blockchain.info or Multibit and surely never used json files before. But don't panic, you should be fine.

You could always just try logging into the blockchain.info wallet via the website... It seems like you have the WalletID in that email, you'd just need the password that you used when you originally set up the wallet back in 2014.

If that walletID isn't valid, use the "having some trouble? View options" link on the login screen and input the email address you used to register with blockchain.info to get the walletID emailed to you.

You can also try the blockchain.info wallet import utility: https://blockchain.info/wallet/import-wallet

Again, you'll need the password used to encrypt it... ie. The wallet password you used back in 2014.
