I have 7 of the MSI RX580 Gaming X cards and I'm trying to design my own little shelf / frame to put them on. What have you guys found to be a good amount of spacing for these cards for better temperatures and would you suggest mounting them in a vertical or horizontal fashion?

I keep the cards in an open air frame. About 4.75" apart is good for a dual tier frame or 3.5" apart for a single tier (center to center). I use a box fan to keep good air circulation and remove heat around the cards. That makes the card fans work more efficiently, so you don't have to turn them up high and prolongs the life of the fans.

Having your cards like the poster above should be enough. An exact science and measurements are not necessary for this.
At what temps do your cards even run? 60-65 degrees is actually a decent temperature to run those cards on.

What you need to be worrying about is overclocking and undervolting. Undervolting helps reduce heat the most.
