Steps to create a SegWit wallet in Electrum with addresses starting with 3?

Since November 1st Electrum supports segwit, I created a new segwit wallet but addresses start with 'bc1'. As far as I know this is not wide spread right now. How can I get normal segwit addresses starting with '3'?

With Electrum, you can't. That's why they recommend you to create a standard wallet until the major services start supporting the bc1 format. If you want the format starting with 3, you will need to use another wallet - such as GreenAddress or Trezor.

Hope this is not old news but i watched some youtube videos on how to get an address starting with 3 and it seems people are managing to get Electrum to generate these addresses with the prefix "3".....is there any easier way because i keep running in these bc1 addresses

yes, right..

to have segwit addresses starting with a 3 in Electrum just follow these simple steps:

1) generate a bip39, 12 words seed on https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ (use it offline for more security)
2) on electrum choose, File -> New/Restore -> Standard Wallet -> I already have a seed -> click on "options" and choose bip39, write the seed then click next
3) on derivation path path use: m/49'/0'/0'/0

that's all. Remember to save in a safe place the seed as electrum will not show it (read below)
