Confused about Bitcoin transaction.

I am new to bitcoin.   I made the transfer below.  The transaction should have been for a total of $235.54 in US currency but the receiver notified me they received almost $4000 in bitcoin.   On my end, it shows only the original amount being sent but the wrong amount being received.   Anyone have any idea what is going on?

The receiver claim that he received 4000$ based on what? the TXID or his wallet? The amount transacted here is 235$. I believe that you see the other amounts because the funds were sent from multiple sources and not one address only.

Thanks for the response.   The receiver said I sent them over $3000.  So I would assume it was in their bitcoin wallet.   When I look it up in in my transaction log, says Received: 0.498 BTC.

If you have sent from a wallet with multiply bitcoin addresses like Electrum it sends the required amount to the user and the other amount goes to a different bitcoin address within same wallet Electrum and this is usually called a change address. Nothing wrong with this transaction.

Unless you post the link to that specific transaction , it looks like you might have used a distributed ledger wallet service like Xapo where funds are generally sent in groups of transactions whereby you will notice several transactions in groups.

Another way you can make sure your transaction is correct is by looking into the transaction tree visualization: https://blockchain.info/tree/<your transaction ID>

If you are not afraid of posting your transaction id than do that it will be easier for us to just tell you what could have happened on both ends.

Looking at details you have posted in opening post, I am quite sure that you have transferred just exact amount you wanted to. Post transaction id...
