After installing electrum-3.0.1 (Windows Installer), Norton Security removes a threat: Heur.AdvML.B.
Anybody else?

Can I still use the wallet or should I reinstall the wallet after killing silencing Norton for some time?
Or install an older version?
Please advice.

check integrity of file downloaded
and upload infected file to virus total
it might be a false positive though
and do not ever put any BTC unless you make sure about it

Thanks lodyman.

Virus total gave 4 possitives.
Metadefender crashed.

I tried the Standalone Executable. That one worked without any virus notifying.

I think this is still not the final electrum wallet that support segwit.. i was having problem about using their electrum wallet 3.0 with windows 7 32 bit..

Let me ask if what  OS you install electrum3.0.1 in your machine?

make sure that you have all backup before upgrade electrum since its detected in antivirus it is not safe.. so i think better to wait for their final version for electrum segwit support.. i still not upgrading my electrum because of having trouble with python when openning electrum wallet..

It's likely a false positive. Electrum does have behaviors which can resemble a malware, ie. connecting to peers for blocks. With that, some antivirus would just assume it to be a malware. The analysis that you stated was basically a guess by your antivirus. Most of the anti-virus wouldn't detect the well coded malware anyway.

On virustotal, those that detected it are the not-so well known antiviruses and are known to give false positive. Anyway, use the PGP key to verify the file. If it checks out, its probably fine.

@BitMaxz

Windows 10 Pro 1703
I recommend to use the older version than the newest release. but the older version is not segwit support just incase you wanted to download old version you can download it here parent directory https://download.electrum.org/
Note old version no segwit option.. I am using the older one which is electrum 2.9.3 and still working fine for me..
and wait for the electrum developers to update about their latest version until we see a clean electrum wallet and works in any OS..  For now we will experience of some bugs since its a new wallet that supports segwit..

If you're on Windows 7... and getting the "Python DLL error", grab v3.0.1 and try this:

I have just tried the v3.0.1 "Windows Installer" (https://download.electrum.org/3.0.1/electrum-3.0.1-setup.exe) on a Windows 7 64bit VM... and I was getting the Python3.5 dll error... Sad

So I downloaded the Visual Studio 2017 VC++ Redist package from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
This is the link I used: "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2017" - https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=746572

After installing that, v3.0.1 works without any issues on my Win7 install! Wink Grin Cheesy Cool

we can not tell you if it is false positive or real positive because we do NOT know what you are scanning with your anti virus. a file name is not enough for us to know if you are scanning the correct thing.

where did you download the file? was it the real website which is https://electrum.org/#download or some scam website like this one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2369496.0?

did you verify the signature of the file after you downloaded it? Windows Installer sig? if you did that then yes it is most probably a false positive.
