Btcrobot, Gekko, Cryptotrader, Zenbot, Tradewave, Hassbot and Gunbot are some of the bots that I am acquainted with. However I have been told by many people that they are mostly useless.

Exactly! Using bots can be very harmful for your trading, investments. You're actually giving control of everything to a dumb code, everyone would advise you to not use such a tool and rightly so.
There have been many cases of bots going mad and losing out on a lot of profit or even selling in losses.
Its better to do it manually, even if you don't have much time, do it in the time you can afford, but no bot will ever have brains.

I would strongly suggest you to not use bots for your daytrading. There have been instances when the bots have resulted in huge losses for many traders. If you do not have the time to day trade yourself and this is why you want to get a bot, i suggest go long term. This way you would make the most profits.

I do not think that using bots on trading because it's not exactly accurate to give you a good income as a trader. Mostly it will give you losses for sure.
