I just watched a video on my social media about guys running a social experiment about Bitcoin in their country (USA), and they questioned strangers that they chose, this "Would you rather have 1 Bitcoin or 1 dollar?" and almost all of the people they questioned chose 1 dollar. Only 1 person in all the person they interviewed chose 1 bitcoin. This just proves that there still a lot of us who don't have a clue about digital currency. If I would do this in my country, I'm sure that no one will choose bitcoin over our local currency. What about in your country if you run this social experiment?

Nice experiment or shall i say interviews. Now, this is just showing us that even if people within the Bitcoin community (including you and me, my dear) considered Bitcoin and the whole cryptocurrency to be very popular, there are still so many out there in the 'real' or offline world which have not hear or comprehend much about Bitcoin, its story, its rise and its surging value.

This means that Bitcoin has not really reached the mainstream population even if the mainstream media has already made a good coverage of cryptocurrency be they positive or negative news. Hopefully, with the recent surge and that of good coverage on the CME's futures offering, Bitcoin can edged upwards in the people's consciousness.

That was frustrating. If I knew that segment and let me choose between bitcoin and 1 usd. Even if it was just .01bitcoin I will still choose bitcoin against usd.

This just proves that Bitcoin has much more room to grow.
Imagine if everyone knew what Bitcoin is and what makes it so great. The price would skyrocket.
It's happening, but slowly. A couple of years ago that social experiment most likely wouldn't have anyone saying they'd prefer 1 Bitcoin.

In my country people vaguely know that Bitcoin is a very valuable digital currency so that social experiment would be very different.

Not exactly a normal poll or study.  Even though a lot of people may have said a dollar, they could easily edit it to show almost everyone saying that if it's just a YouTube video.

Personally, instead of trying to make my point this way, I would ask people three questions:

1. Do you know what the value of 1 BTC is?
2. Do you believe that the value of BTC is justified?
2. Are you aware of how to buy and sell BTC?

Which would result in a similar understanding of the general public's knowledge about BTC, without the sensationalism.

I think that's a good experiment to know if people know what bitcoin is. If ever we try this experiment here in our country, i think that most of the people here will say that bitcoin is a scam. Many people here lacks knowledge too when it comes to digital currency. So they'll end up choosing our countries currency. Bitcoin is once featured in one of the shows in the television here in our country and they don't give a good feedback about bitcoin but the good thing is there are group of people that offers a lecture about bitcoin for free.

Woah a dollar vs a bitcoin and cant believe so many people just chose dollar and rejected something worth 7000 dollar. This means we a re still a lot behind our goal of total decentralized economy. When people dont even know about bitcoin and its value how can you expect them to know details about blockchain and other things.

This experiment do really proves out that lots of people aren't still able to know or do have awareness about bitcoins existence and for those people who do have knowledge about it will sure to choose bitcoin rather than on $1 because they do know the actual price or recent price of bitcoin as of now which is $7k and if those persons do know the actual price for sure they would really changed their minds.

That's surprising. And that too for USA. I can agree that many people that I know don't have much idea about bitcoin let alone other popular alt coins.

BTW: can you share some details about this video? link, source etc

Most probably the situation is the same in my country. And it makes me very happy. Because it shows that bitcoin price will rise very much more as there are still many people don't know what bitcoin is. A day all of them will know bitcoin and that high demand can make us very reach.

Totally agree with you.

Rather than giving people the option of choosing one currency or another, is better to teach them about cryptocoins in the way you're proposing...

I might do this in my country...

Most people in my country never heard about Bitcoin so probably they don't know the value of that cryptocurrency. Thats why they would choose one dollar.

Interesting survey data in the US. This is for that. that according to previous polls in the US they are quite well informed about bitcoin in comparison with other countries. For example, in Russia and China, over 80 percent of the bitcoins and crypto-currencies have not been heard at all. Yes, the bitcoins still have huge reserves.

Oh! and I forgot to mention that when they asked the question about what would they choose, and the person they are interviewing answered "a dollar", they would literally give a dollar. Then they will now try to explain and tell them "do you know what bitcoin is worth now?" and sometimes they just say after giving a dollar that "Bitcoin cost "$4000" right now and the people be like. Woah really? are you serious?.

This just clearly shows that we have a long way to go for the mass adoption of Bitcoin. If I would be doing this social experiment in my country and let them choose between 1 bitcoin or 1 thousand pesos, I'm pretty sure that the people I'm asking would definitely choose the thousand pesos! no questions asked.

so its mean there are only few person that know crypto currency especially with bitcoin and i think if in future they know bitcoin and learn bitcoin, they will regret it. maybe its because there are no news or bitcoin is not spreads in that city or country so people don't know about bitcoin or crypto currency and i think its our chance to introduce crypto currency world to them so they can join with us. i think in my country, the situations is like yours but i am not yet makes social experiment like you and maybe me and my friends will makes questioned like what you did.

Not surprising in the slightest. We're too far gone to know how it's perceived in the rest of the world. There was a similar thing done with a gold coin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgUxF7gvYeE

Snickers or 1/10th of an ounce of gold.

Most people never encounter gold in a monetary sense in their whole lives. Same goes for BTC. Most people never, ever question what money is. My attitude leans towards - fuck 'em.

Of course that is because we know bitcoin by heart. Anyway, this one is a great expriment that shows how unaware people are on bitcoin. If it will be asked in my country, most will choose a dollar over bitcoin, plus you will be accused of doing a scam due to a lot of news of bitcoin related to scam here.
