Hi,
I have pentium 4 system running Ubuntu 10.04 OS. I got the file "bitcoin-0.3.19-linux.tar.gz" from source forge last night. I extracted the contents, ran the 32-bit binary "bitcoin" and the app appeared and spent time acquiring all the blocks. "~/.bitcoin" was created, All was fine.
However, problems started when I had all the blocks and the client was generating (~500 or so Khash/s from memory). With bit coin in the background generating, my PC will now completely freeze spontaneously (no mouse movement, no keyboard response, nada - needs a hardware reset). This always happens within 30 minutes or so of enabling generating on bitcoin client - if I don't enable the generation, my pc doesn't seem to have any problem.
I'm unaccustomed to such inexplicable complete system freezes since migrating to linux OS primarily, I don't know how I can get more information about the crashes. Can anyone suggest anything (log files or such)??
Since the whole computer is just hanging, I'm thinking there may be some sort of hardware issue perhaps (maybe CPU get's upset by what client is doing to it?). Can anyone offer an insight?
I am very interested to learn about this bitcoin concept, I hope I can troubleshoot my generation issue so I can experiment. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cheers.
