An Introduction to GEO PIN
A social venture that is financially sustainable and profitable for its token holders
GeoPin aims to create the world’s most complete, interactive, and personalized map.
Disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect 200 million people each year. Many of these places where the poorest and most vulnerable people reside are literally ‘missing’ from any map; first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Developed countries, on the other hand, suffer from a one-size-fit-all-map that lacks real-time personalized information beyond navigation.
Maps used to be all about navigation but today, they are about discovery, meaningful connections, and real-time content.

1. Economic incentives to put MORE UNMAPPED ON THE MAPOpenStreetMap is a collaborative project started
almost 13 years ago and claiming hundreds of thousands of volunteer mappers around the world. A crowdsourcing project, OpenStreetMap actually achieves
better data quality than Google Maps in many places, especially less developed areas.
But OpenStreetMap’s growth is currently hindered by the
slow growth in map contributions and map contributors.
To
fuel the power of the crowd and
incentivize broader local participation, GeoPin implements a reward mechanism that rewards
GIN tokens to
mappers anywhere in the world to put MORE UNMAPPED ON THE MAP.
2. Real-time personalized information beyond navigationBesides map data,
real-time information
enriches the static base map with local and cultural pulses. GeoPin aims to bring together vibrant local communities everywhere in the world to crowdsource interesting local destinations, events, and specialties. Anyone can create a PinChannel to start pinning on a specific type of destination with other pinners. Similar to subreddits on Reddit, all
PinChannels on GeoPin are
user-generated.
For example, someone can create a PinChannel to start pinning pop-up farmer markets; or a celebrity can create her PinChannel to share places that she goes to with her fans.
3. Control of your map and what you seeOn GeoPin, you can subscribe to any number of
PinChannels and only see pins in those PinChannels. Pins can be transient. If there’s no additional interest for a certain period of time, a pin will be hidden.
For example, if you’re interested in “Dishes you can’t miss”, subscribe to that
PinChannel, get informed and share with others about wonderful dishes you spot in restaurants in your city, and most importantly HAVE FUN!
4. A financially sustainable open-source modelGeoPin monetizes the
real-time personalized information layer to reward both
mappers and
pinners while keeping
the base map data free for all, honoring the noble spirit of OpenStreetMap.
Advertisers, app developers, and agencies who want to access GeoPin’s data or audience need to purchase
GIN tokens. 10% of GIN tokens earned will be
burnt as transaction fee while the remaining will be paid to
GEOPinners. GEOMappers are compensated with
newly mined GIN tokens through a fixed-rate inflation scheme.
5. Mass adoption of cryptocurrenciesWe have been asking ourselves for a long time about
a killer app that can
introduce cryptocurrencies to the rest of the world and bring more people into our community.
Maps is the most used application by people everywhere. So the
target user group of GeoPin is not only
big but also proven: popular map applications claim almost
one third of the world population as their monthly active users (or about
2 billions+ people). GeoPin aims to make these users first time owners of a crypto currency -
the GIN token.
6. Map data secured on the blockchainThe GeoPin blockchain is used to save all edits to the world map, guaranteeing decentralization and censor-proofness of the world map in all circumstances.

TOKEN MECHANISM
Geo Mappers are users who contribute map data to the base map such as adding a lake, a building, a road, etc.
Geo Pinners are users who curate existing locations on the map to specific PinChannels to enrich them with real-time information and personal perspectives about the places.
GeoPin monetizes the real-time information layer to reward both Geo Mappers and Geo Pinners while keeping the base map data free for all, honoring the noble spirit of OpenStreetMap.
Advertisers, application developers, and agencies who want to access GeoPin’s data or audience need to purchase GIN tokens. 10% of GIN tokens earned will be burnt as transaction fee while the remaining will be paid to GeoPin Pinners.
