Which city are you referring to? And how do you know the exact number? Is there a listing where we can check all the bitcoin ATMs in a certain area?
And getting back to your topic: Yes, its a good business. ATM machines charge heavy fees, and if there is area where people use it regularly, it can be a good business to invest in.
The machines aren't that expensive either, but I think one would have to tackle the local laws and taxes etc.

You enter your QR code to receive... insert cash and click send

Just to clarify, you scan the QR code for your Public address, NOT your Private key. < never your private key > You only need to do this, so that the ATM knows where to send the bitcoins you bought. OP, you are very fortunate, some cities do not even have a single ATM.

These ATM distributors concentrate on areas with high volume users of Bitcoin and ignore the smaller markets where adoption is key to the growth of Bitcoin.

That news just identifies wasted investment. Real news would be growth in how many people actually use Bitcoin ATMs.

Bitcoin ATMs are AWFUL. They're not eve a good billboard or advertisement, because they're often in random locations that don't get much foot traffic. When the premiums on buying or selling bitcoin come down to meet the market we'll see the bitcoin ATMs become a useful contribution to the bitcoin ecosystem.

They have their uses a lot of users are not at the level of proficiency to spend the time and effort to get registered on an official exchange
It's like a vending machine a bit more expensive than if you went to the grocery store but it's there so you can get your cash.
(Although foot traffic wise depends on the operator, and where they decide to put the things)

There is no Bitcoin ATM machine here in our country and I don't know when can we have here just like in your country. We just have here ATM machines that when you want to encash it, it's automatically converted into fiat.

Of course it is directly proportional on bitcoins growth. When bitcoin is growing, so as the material for the bitcoins growth will also act. That is a great thing for bitcoin, being known in the whole world is a lot.

I never understood why people would want to use these ATMs. Going back to old fiat based systems feels odd.

Let alone the risk you take showing everybody in the surroundings that you own bitcoin.

I wanted to use a Bitcoin ATM in Manchester, England when I was visiting, but the fees are really high and it is pretty limited, I think you can only get a few hundred out.
I like the idea of them, but if you have to pay 15% in charges at the end of the day, as well as giving up your personal details, I don't think they are worth it.

Local Bitcoins should work much better, but I do understand not wanting to meet with someone to exchange, there are a lot of scammers out there.

This means that more and more people are getting into bitcoin for, the demand in atm's would not increase if there is no support for it. We know bitcoin is still young and all of the people who started it shared their story, with those testaments many people are engaging due to big returns.

OP, that's a crazy number of ATMs in one city... where are you located? London? NY? We had 2 Bitcoin ATMs in our capital (Kuala Lumpur) - located in trendy, really high-end areas where people would afford Bitcoin I guess. Think this was even in 2014 or so, but they closed down since and I'm not aware of any right now. Population of about 30 million and it wasn't successful then, and unlikely to happen again with the moves by our central bank.

I get why the idea would appeal... but to me it's just as easy as going on localbitcoins to buy a bit of coin. I mean, if people have a hard time understanding how to buy and use wallets, imagine how tough they'd get around using an ATM, no? Never mind the exorbitant fees...

yeah i think that's great. and you should be proud, as well as glad of that. It would be nice if the city i'm living also like yours. The number of btc ATMs in my city can be said to be very small. And now, it's harder , Our government does not like btc .. but no one can deny that btc has a big growth, the quote is increasing of ATM  as you say the easiest thing to see.

There are a lot more ATMs in the US and Europe than in the rest of the world, just have a look at this map: https://coinatmradar.com/

In the grand scale of things, there really aren't that many ATMs if you look at the whole world.
Coinatmradar lists 1778 ATMs in 58 countries, with most of those located in the US and Europe.

Even if you look at Europe for example, they are very thinly spread out across the continent with a couple of cities that have multiple ATMs.

This is such a huge progress in bitcoin because the atm are keep on increasing rapidly and it means that the people are getting familiarized with bitcoin and i think that is enough to say that bitcoin is becoming popular enough and i hope that more and more countries will get bitcoin atm to spread the word of bitcoin to its citizen.

Just seeing from that statistic, we can assume that the company that provides all those Bitcoin ATMs which also ofcourse running a bitcoin-based company right now having a good time on earning profit and expanding its coverage, also, the significant increase of all those ATMs also a sign that in your city, there's so many active bitcoin users.
It's kinda a good thing seeing that the adoption of bitcoin day by day keep on increasing, just curious what will happen in the next 5 years.

bitcoin atm not the first time. It has taken place in some countries. That shows that bitcoin is becoming more and more popular.

It is actually great if the number of btc ATM is increasng... yet I guess, it is not the same everywhere...
Would be great, though, to have a system both easy and accessible to transform btc in money... And when I say so, of course I mean without incredible taxes or unfavourable rates...

ONe day, maybe...

It's super crazy. I'm curious. What city are you in? It must be a super metropolis, because small places can't grow so fast, and most cities don't have bitcoin ATM

I think it's much better to have it converted through exchange sites for fiat exchanges rather than bitcoin ATM's, but if its rampant in your local area and yet accessible so I guess its just better to have it even with charges. Banking transactions might be caused some delays and if that bitcoin atm will increase it's number I guess rapid adoptions will also happen so people can now recognize it specially when its accepted local and online transactions.

Not a single here in our country. But it is a nice idea to have those in here because many people engage in bitcoin here. I foresee a future with a lot of those in every country.

October 6, 2017 had 92 ATM machines in my city.... today, November 8th, 2017, we have 109.
20% increase in the past month, in June there was around 64 BTC ATM machines. Crazy.
In what country you do live? Its amazing that there are already 92 ATM machines being placed which means bitcoin adoption is high on there and unluckily the number of bitcoin atm in my country is on 1 which is being only placed on capital city. Unlucky for those people who do live on province which they would really miss the chance on using it physically but well I do still hope that it would increase even more same on your country. Good to hear this kind of adoption.

Fortunately, as more and more Bitcoin ATMs grow around the world, Bitcoin is becoming more and more popular and makes Bitcoin users easier to trade. It is noteworthy that it appears more and more when the government has not yet decided whether to approve it or not. Probably because Bitcoin prices are rising

Bitcoin is becoming more and more mainstream. This shows the growth of Cryptos and time when we will be using bitcoin for day to day transaction seems to be very near. Eager for the day when the Bitcoin ATM is installed in every country of the world. Just feels good to image the decentralized financial economy.

I've never seen a bitcoin ATM. In my city they are not. I generally treat with great skepticism to such ATMs. Who can tell me why they are needed? Probably only for those who want to have cash and not to leave their traces. I'm not doing anything illegal and therefore easily deduce bitcoin through the exchange to a Bank card. Why should I pay such a high percentage as in the ATM?

Remember my fellow members that Bitcoin ATMs are a business of people and usually the rates are will be in favor of the business owner. If you are looking for value and does not want to be outsmarted by these kinds of businesses you need to find another way to Buy or Sell your Bitcoin as you won't be getting your 1 dollar to a dollar trade with these kinds of interest rates.

That's great to hear, man! I believe it's somewhere in one of the biggest cities in US? Well here in my country, there's not a single btc atm yet. Maybe btc isn't quite big yet here and even if the demand is high here in PH I think having btc atm isn't profitable. As harsh as it may sound but the people here would rather receive coins here for free 0and not buy it in any exchange that's why atm's aren't needed as of the moment.

Glad to see Atm machine which support bitcoins in your country but can you tell us which country you belongs to ?  Where you live in and city ? Let me confirm because i haven't heard such news neither its appeared on social media. If this news true then its good for bitcoins more people aware about it more it increases.

I dont know, not a single on in my country LOL
Do we have to enter our pv key to the ATM? Sounds quite risky to me

No you are not the only one who cares about this. My city has only one I don't even know if it still operates. I think the fact that in your city theres an increase, is a very good sign for bitcoin. If I had money I would operate a machine as well.

I see 1863 Bitcoin ATMs currently, if I'm not misreading this https://coinatmradar.com/charts/#growth

In what city do you live? That is quite some progression for bitcoin ATM for the moment. I can imagine how convenient it is to have an ATM that use bitcoin, for people who uses bitcoin.
Sadly, my country once stated that it doesnt support bitcoin and the transaction using bitcoin will not be a responsibilty of my country, but last time i heard they will study and learn about this bitcoin matters, and i hope my country can agree with bitcoin and then we can have that Bitcoin ATM too. So envy of you.
