Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Garzik probaly will continue on his metronome project.

Its a altcoin used to carry transactions between other coins, without the use of exchanges. Something similar to the atomic swap, but with a intermediary.

Basically that. I am actually surprised to see the hard fork being put to a *temporary* stop, while for a lot insanely wealthy holders there is plenty to gain from such a major event. I am sure that malicious entities such as Jihan and Ver were already counting their instant profits, but they have to swallow this as a loss, at least for now. It was quite funny how Ver was looking to bet with others that the value of S2X would exceed the value of the legacy chain. Especially when you consider that the bet he makes is utterly insignificant in comparison to his overall wealth, and the fact that he is so confident. It just shows what kind of joker he is - he now has plenty of time to put in his 'precious' BCC project.

Bitpay said they'd enable BCH and other alts on their platform if segwit2x didn't go through. That way their customers would be able to make purchases with low fees.

I'm pretty sure that attempts to scale Bitcoin are now dead and buried and people wanting quick transactions with low fees will migrate to alts. Bitcoin will become a financial instrument like gold, and won't be used for commerce, so it won't matter if the fees are high or if there is a backlog in the mempool.

They'll be back.  I mean c'mon, there's always some sort of 'take over' going on in the scene.  There was XT, Classic, BU, and the recently cancelled Segwit2x.  It would be naive to think there isn't a group of conspirators plotting their next move.

And I won't be surprised if it's the usual suspects.

I hope that we will come back to the idea of increasing block size. Perhaps the developers will find the opportunity to gain an understanding of shahterov the fact that it is necessary. If this does not happen then I think the other way, as the fork will not. Might just be a new coin that will be better adapted to such situations and capital users gradually migrate to this coin.

It really sounds nice but I think Satoshi just wanted bitcoin to aid in transactions everyday when he created bitcoin in the first place. Still, the blockchain he introduced to the community will surely be used worldwide soon in the near future. That being said, I want bitcoin to have quick low fee transactions too just like how it used to be in the past. Even if becomes digital gold, I want it to be usable for fast transactions too, I also think that there are others who want this as well.

They’ll be back, no doubt about it. It’ll be another hijack attempt with another embarrassing name. They’ll be defeated though by the community AGAIN!

I think it's positive that they were sensible enough to call time on it, though I don't know why it took so long. But the issues they were concerned about/concern trolling are still there.

I don't think they've changed their minds. They're probably waiting until another issue occurs or the problem because too big to ignore that others join onto their bandwagon should their be no alternative.
In other words, they're lurking in the shadow until they believe the time is right. Hopefully something more convincing and more accepted will be suggested/planned before then.

The establishment obviously thinks that Bitcoin needs fake bogeymen enemies and strawmen FUD threats and attacks, instead of coming together for innovation and progress.

Expect more fork threat bullshit in the future. Mark my words, we'll be 20 or 30 years in and the bullshit attacks against Bitcoin will never stop. It's almost at the comical level now.

I believe the lack of enmity in the email was a sign that they have conceded in as final a way possible. This doesn't mean there won't be a future call for a similar hard fork alternative, not at all. But it will mean that these guys have probably seen enough proof to show that their goals would never be achievable, no matter how much corporate sponsorship and political will went behind it. NYA signatories dropping out, shows also that so many were misled (not intentionally I would hope) about S2x.

So, not vanquished. But definitely a concession. I think we can look forward to a lot more open, less hostile, discussions from now on?

I would guess that for those who are glad that the fork was canceled, there won't be too much bitterness, as long as those people weren't involved in trading B2X futures or something that got crushed as a result.  I wasn't happy about the way they wanted to try to change bitcoin, but I'm not too upset about it since they came to their senses and didn't try to go through with it, given how much division there was.

I think it's positive that they were sensible enough to call time on it, though I don't know why it took so long. But the issues they were concerned about/concern trolling are still there.

My guess is that they were hoping that if they kept pushing, they would get most of the rest of the community on board.  They probably decided to pull the plug as the date was approaching and they weren't gaining support.
