After doing this I seem to have lost the 36 Dollars that I had accrued. Is there any way to get this back or is it just lost?
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

What exactly have you done to lose your 36 dollars? AFAIK you can use your Nicehash wallet to receive payments and just withdraw when you want, am I right?

It is unclear, for which purpose you use actually your Nicehash wallet. If you use the anonymous mining (mining to BTC addy), then it is impossible to sweep the funds to another BTC address. However, if you sell your hash power to buyers through the (registered) account, changing BTC address is likely possible.

When you change address on nocehash it starts at 0. You wil have to mine on your other wallet with the 36 balance and mine enough to get to payout minimum of 10 mbtc.
The balance is stuck to the address used
