Hi Bitcointalkers

I am having a confusion regarding the trust system on bitcointalk. I see that you can easily give trust ratings to other bitcointalkers. I have never given negative ratings to anyone, but I guess that's easy as well. So my question is what happens if someone gives negative trust rating to other user for revenge, to threaten, or just to shut mouths? Can't a person make multiple newbie or junior accounts to give multiple negative ratings to single person? And as we know, even one negative rating means you can't participate in most of the reputed sig campaigns or even fb and other bounty campaigns. Not to mention, no one would take your posts seriously, even if you are not in any bounty campaign. So what am I  missing here? Can a user ask to review his negative rating, if he/she believes that they have been wrongly/maliciously given negative rating?

Thanks
Siddartha

That's why we have this so called "DT members." These DT member is divided into two which is DT1 and DT2. Those who are in DT1 are users who are in the trust list of the administrators themselves while DT2 are members who are in the trust list of the DT1.

Basically, we can classify them as the reuptable members in the forum where their opinion and trust ratings matters and are recognized. Other ratings who are not a DT member are often not given attention in most cases.

Can the trust system be abused? Yes, and it is frequently (mostly by butthurt scammers leaving retaliatory feedback). However, there are two types of feedback: untrusted and trusted. Untrusted feedback from brand new users carries no weight and will not show up as 'red' or 'green' to anyone but themselves and those that trust them. For your feedback to carry weight someone on the default trust network needs to add you to their trust list so that's why abuse from unreputable or untrusted users is largely irrelevant. If a person is on default trust and is found to be abusing it there is a good chance they will be removed or excluded by those higher up. However, anyone can open up a thread in Reputation about positive or negative feedback and the community can chime in and help resolve the issue.

Pretty much everything that involves some sort of "authority" or "power" can be misused. You should intuitively come to this conclusion.

Between you guys didn't confirm if there is some appeal or rating review mechanism?
No. First you take it up to the person who gave you the rating. If they do not respond or ignore you, then you can ask the community. If the community agrees that the rating is unjust, then you can contact the relevant DT1 member. If the allegedly unjust rating was left by a DT1 member, then you need to contact theymos.

Do negative ratings by Jr. Members and below even matter? I have two negative ratings by spam accounts but it doesnt seem to have a negative effect at all.

No. Only ratings from DT1 and DT2 members are visible by default, and thus also affect your rating. I've got a lot of fake untrusted feedback on me, nothing to worry about.

Okay, that makes sense. And how do I see who is on the DT1 and DT2 lists? My trust bar is green, so I am assuming I am on one of those, but how can I check?

Go here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust, remove everything besides DefaultTrust. The list that you see below is the list of DT members.

You are not. You just have ratings left by other DT members.

I see so even if I give some positive trust rating to someone it won't actually make a difference to their bar right?

Correct. However, this is something that you should know as a *long time* member given that:
a) Your account isn't hacked.
b) It isn't sold.

Heh heh.  I didn't understand that myself until Lutpin gave me a polite spanking in another thread.  It took a long time before I learned the difference between being on someone's trust list and getting a positive feedback from someone.  Not the same thing.

I still don't fully understand the trust system here, but that's a reflection of my own laziness and/or cognitive impairment.   It's all good.

And yes, it is a system that's rife with abuse.  I think it's very broken, but I know lots of folks here would disagree with me, so I'll leave it at that.  It's not my forum and I'm just grateful to be here.  As shitty as bitcointalk has become, I'm glad it exists.

Who can I complain about someone who gives me a negative trust (In my case is Lauda) - Lauda please don't reply to this post.

I have this signature because I participate on a Signature Bounty Program for Alttradex, in which I invested and I trust them. I read that Alttradex had a misunderstanding about their signature. I can not withdraw from Alttradex Bounty because I will lose my Signature Bounty.

Because someone else is claiming that this signature is not Alttradex's he got a -1 trust and so have I.

I consider this to be an abuse from Lauda because I want to participate in Alttradex Signature Bounty but Lauda has a problem with Alttradex and I felt in the middle of this "conflict".

I understand that Lauda is Legendary but this is not fair. I can not withdraw from a Bounty just because there is a difference of opinions.

I always fallow the rules and it's not fair to be bullied on doing something that will make you lose money just because other people has their differences.

To sum it up: Who can I complain about Lauda when he obviously abused his/her power?

Thank you

At the risk of opening up old wounds, and I might regret this... those on the default trust list can abuse the system too.

The "best" way, in my opinion, is to develop your own trust list, which requires time and effort, don't trust a stranger.  Trust someone that you have taken a chance with and developed a relationship with, but hell, even that can bite you in the butt.  They may be in for the long scam, who knows.

A new user here, just out of the blue, should trust no one, without doing their own research, default trust list or not.

Does anyone ever get removed from DT2 for leaving false/retaliatory feedback with no evidence? It seems like Default Trust members often don't have to explain themselves or prove their accusations.

I guess the "Don't trust, verify!" culture does not apply to Bitcointalk! Smiley

Yes, trust system can be misused. Trust system should only be used if a user scammed someone or didn't send the other end of the deal but i have seen lots of threads recently that they were given a negative trust though they did not scammed someone.

There you have it.

I've made some changes to signature.

Is this one still owned by someone?

Is it ok now?

Can we move on from this?

Why isn't any of the Bitcointalk OP/admins doesn't do anything about Lauda?!?!

Lauda is abusing his/shes power and undermining a token sale, a future busyness!

Why don't YOU do something?

There 2 things you can do about this:
1. make a negative trust which is gave by a OP like any other negative trust.
2. OP should be aloud to give negative trust to those who they done busyness with.

This type of behavior that you OPs allow is destroying a busyness, destroying credibility of other members for no reason (like my case), and allowing other high ranked members to take advantage of their power and bully/bribe other members to do as a ranked member says or your credibility goes to hell...

Aren't there any rules against this type of behavior?!? A OP/admin can do anything they want with his +/- trust system?Huh

This is inadmissible!!!

LoL

Really, you deleted my All Caps post, and you still don't bother to see what Lauda has done to me and many others, including to a ICO offer?

Have a look at this and you'll see that Lauda is abusing the trust system (I never had any busyness with him, and never will have; we never talked before, we never met; and he gave me a negative trust!!)
