What caught my attention is Andre Arlovski is still fighting amid his 5 straight losses and he last won a fight two years ago over Frank Mir and its via unanimous decision. His striking skills may still be dangerous but not as dangerous when he was still cleaning up the roster in his division, beating almost everyone via knock out.

Preliminary notes for this event.

-Anthony Pettis looks improved after starting his new strength and conditioning program. The same with his brother, Sergio.

-This is Diego Sanchez' 1st fight at welterweight(170 lbs) in a long time. Diego said on social media he had health issues leading up to his last fight. He blamed medical marijuana for damaging his heart. There isn't much official info on the topic but that is what he said.

-Andrei Arlovski moved from the Greg Jackson / Mike Winkeljon gym where he normally trains to American Top Team for this fight.

-Clay Guida has looked better since moving to team alpha male to train winning his last fight & coming close to winning the one before that.

-Michel Quinones seems to be a kickboxing/striking specialist. He doesn't seem to have much wrestling or ground game, which could mean his fight with Sage Northcutt will be a stand up battle.

-Sage Northcutt moved to team alpha male to train. This will be his 1st fight training out of that gym.

Here are some vids just to help you get excited on the event even if it's not really that exciting.  But it's a decent card imo.

I think Pettis is gonna lose this one, solidifying his place in the UFC as a pay check fighter.

Cezar Ferreira (185) vs. Nate Marquardt (185.5)
Raphael Assuncao (135.5) vs. Matthew Lopez (138.5)*
Clay Guida (155) vs. Joe Lauzon (155)

Interesting fights to see:

Matt Brown vs Diego Sanchez. I think both fighters are very entertaining specially Diego Sanchez. Both have a gung-ho style of fight and last man standing will be the winner. Diego though bleeds easily however Matt Brown has weaknesses in his body and can easily get hurt once a perfect body shot lands. But I think Matt Brown being the natural 170 lb'er will win this fight.

Yeah, I'm seeing Pettis improving his condition and might fight for the title soon. But he has a hurdle to overcome as I believed that Dustin Poirier is a live dog, but I don't think that Anthony will let this one slip away. This is a easy fight for him, and no doubt that he can win this fight via KO.

Knew it!  Pettis should just retire.  I can't bear to see hi become a pay check fighter after this.  I was so used to picturing him as one of the dominant champs in the UFC. I guess that matrix kick stuck sith me.  I really thought he was the sh*t back then.

Here are the results.

His striking skills may still be dangerous but not as dangerous when he was still cleaning up the roster in his division, beating almost everyone via knock out.
I really though Andrei Arlovski should retire as his chin is like glass and one shot could land him in the mat and i am happy to see him win this time around  after five losses and he should retire now with a win and if he really wants to fight he should fight in Rizin or one FC where the competition is not that great .

Knew it!  Pettis should just retire.  I can't bear to see hi become a pay check fighter after this.  I was so used to picturing him as one of the dominant champs in the UFC. I guess that matrix kick stuck sith me.  I really thought he was the sh*t back then.
Pettis was a dominating champion prior to drug testing and when that started he looked like an ordinary fighter there are many fighters like that, may be he lost his confidence after loosing his belt, either way he was really unorthodox and i really enjoyed his battles with Benson,i think it is time for him to hang his gloves or move to Bellator to try his luck.

It seems like Pettis doesn't want to train hard anymore. He's not as hungry as people like Poirier are. A lot of recent fights are very close and the winner is the guy who wants it more. Pettis might be too busy running his "AP" barber shops. Other things could be taking up his time. Pettis vs Poirier was still a great fight.

Biggest surprise was Clay Guida winning via KO/TKO very quickly. Clay Guida, Andrei Arlovski and Paul Felder (who was commentating) are all guys who used to train at JacksonWink who moved elsewhere and seemed to improve by hopping gyms.

Raphael Assauncao winning by KO was also a big surprise.

Sage Northcutt looked much improved since training full time. Like commentators mentioned he's in school full time and training MMA part time for his previous UFC fights.

If that's your impression of Pettis, then yes, he's really starting to look more and more like a pay check fighter.

I'll give him around two more years or so, then he'll retire.  Even the great Anderson Silva is looking like a pay check fighter.  Lol.  It would have been better for him if he retired after two losses to Weidman.

Yes, its looks like Pettis "Showtime" is over. I really thought that the kid has a bright future. But successive lost put his mind and body to nowhere. Maybe its a mental issue on his part or another bad luck. 2 years is long in my opinion. A fight or 2 would says it all. If he losses on his next fight then we should retire and just coach his brother. Just sad to see another wasted talent though or just maybe competition is getting higher. I really like the term "paycheck figther" hahaha.

@Baofeng. I do not know what fight you saw because I reckon Anthony Pettis looked and fought ok to me. But I agree that he is not championship material anymore.

Also calling him a paycheck fighter is unfair. He has the type of mindset that he can still go challenge for the championship again one day. He might prefer to retire than becoming a paycheck fighter.
