Mining consumes a lot of electricity. In most states electricty is still produced by old factories, that use coal, oil and other raw materials. Therefore, production of electricty makes enormous contamination of atmosphere. Nowadays, mining becomes such kind of mainstream.
Can we assume that our planet is dying much faster?

What do you mean by planet dying? Global warming means we will not need to travel to exotic countries to sunbath etc. Planet getting better u mean.
Pollution is non existant, since there are pretty amazing filters for old factories that use coal as u saying ;] they are pretty high tech now.

That's why many developers are talking about switching to environment-friendly algorithm alternatives like PoS (Proof-of-Stake) for the future of bitcoin. Also, Satoshi's vision for PoW includes quantum computing to be a part of the mining process to 'at least' lower the amount energy needed by these bulky mining rigs.

Pollution is non existant, since there are pretty amazing filters for old factories that use coal as u saying ;] they are pretty high tech now.

Saying such means that you don't care about the planet in any way. Pollution is a real thing and is happening day by day. Perhaps you want to do some research about the topic to enlighten yourself.

Extraction of bitcoins or gold, which is more harmful?
I recommend that you watch documentaries about the alternative history of the origin of mountains, volcanoes and canyons. According to the author's version - the whole earth is a huge mine of the entire table of elements. This means that we have been digging up to us, during and after us will dig.

Comparing what's the lesser of the two evils doesn't mean that one is a better alternative than the other. Both are using methods to slowly kill earth, and that's why people value it so much because of how difficult the extraction process can be. Both are harmful to the environment, but we, the people want to get a hold of these so-called fortunes that we don't even think we're destroying earth little by little.

repost from other topic:

Quote

No more than the extravagance of extracting gold from under the earth, melting and shaping. Not to mention the construction of large bizarre buildings, waste of energy for printing and chasing various fiat money, their transportation in armored cars with at least two guards who could do something more useful.

In fact, bitcoins are a more economical resource when compared to others.

Well, well, what kind of contamination can there be, except by the man himself, who without a breakaway mining. Problems in general I do not see it and in other branches alternative types of energy have already been considered so that there are no such loads.

I understand what you are saying however it is not only minning that contrubutes to polution there also many factors like the third world countries experience. Also the growing population of each contries will pretty much is the biggest factor in my opinion.

I didn't mean that mining is the biggest world's problem. And it is defintely not.

Pollution doesn't come from factories (can be neglected) but from mass cattle breeding.

Can you please enlighten me on quantum computing? And how it differs from the current mining propagation?
I believe that if Bitcoin goes PoS (which is really good and will undoubtedly save too much energy that these "bulky" mining equipments are consuming), its value will bust and become dust (possibly) because they are buying it as mining is the only thing that's giving much better rewards which I believe that even after implementing PoS, they won't be getting and even if they do, it will be worthless. They are not mining, they are "working" it out to support the whole network which is needed under the protocol.
