65 nm efficient BFL chips Group Buy

GB buyers will have 5$ per bought chip discount on boards. Since 5$ per chip from GB is paying for development of the boards this is only thing that is far. So this is the same as you would pay just 50 or 75$ per chip.

Email(for non members and newbies): bfl(at)prorang.si

My public PGP key: http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x8EC2B92912B7585B

There is lots of GB around. I'm making my own since I can't find one that is open or have what I need. All have there own chip credits and are BTC only and I didn't find one that doesn't require paying 100%. I have BTC and I love the ease of transferring money with them but buying them isn't easy in every country. So I accept PayPal and SEPA too. If interested I can add international wire transfer but I think PayPal works better.

I will do my best to respond as quickly as possible but I do have a day job.

Chips sold in current batch: 0

Chips in batch 3: 99 + (17 warranty)14th August
Chips in batch 2: 104 17th July
Chips in batch 1: 184 + (16 for me) 3rd and 4th July

If you don't know what BFL options are read this:
BFL is selling there chips. They are 75$ at minimal order of 100.
When ordering from BFL you need to pay only 50% so this is 50% option. You need to pay other 50% when BFL ships.
BLF also give out some chip coupons that give you 25$ discount. You get them if you bought your BFL device early enough.
If you still don't understand you can PM me.

So these are the options:

Will order when I have 100 or more orders and will start next batch.

Cover changes in prices of BTC
5% Fee for all the work with it

Trust:
Why should I trust you?

Well I do have some positive feedback and have better record then BFL Smiley . I know that is not hard but I think if you trust BFL you can trust me. I will post all info of the buys.
I have 100% positive feedback on eBay http://myworld.ebay.ca/zaromet/
Do not risk more than you can afford to lose, BTC and BTC mining preorders are high risk.
PM me for other information you need to verify identity

BFL:
BFL has now provided the source code for the microcontroller, and a design document for the chip and board schematic. They have also said they will release reference schematics in the future.
Delivery in 100 days from order(according to them)

Disclaimer:
You can not hold me responsible for BFL delays and issues... I’m not responsible for any trouble you might have with customs unless it is because of our boards. Also I’m not responsible for cases of force majeure (all things out of my control). My job is to place an order and distribute/mount/host/produce boards the chips when they arrive.

Watching this topic I had interest in producing pcbs in Netherlands but didn't cause investor stepped back. I might buy a couple later on + assemble service if possible.

You will be able to buy whatever you would like. Personally I'm not worried about anything but chips. If we get them on time we are golden. Even if difficulty will increase 20 times and BTC falls to 80$ I believe that with our boards(or any other) you will get money back in 6 to 7 mouths. But if you wait too long you will start with much higher difficulty and ROI will take much longer.

Interested but would like more (solid) info on total price of board incl assembly before joining the GB
For solid data you would have to wait for me to get:
1. Sample chips
2. Number of orders
than I can say it will cost 100, 150, 200...€ From plans we are getting ideas why BFL had problems but we are not sure about it. It is power... I don't think that heat is such big problem. So BFL was flying blind till they get the chips and so are we.

But as I wrote. You can buy just chips. You can send us or tell me to buy a different board an mount chips on it. This is minimal expanse of around 10€. So you really don't need to worry about boards. I would be more worried about timing... Chips are the main problem. They are 100 days away from the day we order. If we get sample chips in 30 days I'm sure we will have something. I also think that some community project will come up so we can look at them an see if we can improve the design. But if you would like solid numbers. I can get 1000 BFL boards for 30 to 40$ unassembled or 60 to 80$ assembled+ prices chips and other staff on it. But simulations are showing that components can support 2 maybe 3 chips. Our design is far from complete so we don't have idea what component we need and how much do they cost. We are not going to go BFL way and say something that we all know is a guess and can be off by a mile.

But if you are twisting my arm I can say that 16 chip design is unlikely... Too expensive or too noise cooling We are moving in a direction of modular 4 or maybe 8 chip design. Normal CPU heatsink. But we are still calculating components and calculating power usage and heat production... So we are far from knowing exact components.

Why I'm a hurrying so much. Boards were never a bottle neck. K16 boards were produced before first chips were delivered. Same will happen hire. I'm sure. Even if we fail you will have chips that you can mount on any open source board that will be produce among the first. If not there is still BFL board that we know is working. I have no problem with pride. If we fail or there is a performance benefit I will send you the best board out there at the moment. This is something that we written in a agreement among ours companies.

We are 95% sure we are right about this two statements:

We can add 2 chips to your Jalapeno if you have a later version of the bord. And do 2gh upgrade. Making your device up to 19 gh(depends on chip but 4 A grade are about there whit OC) I would recommend to take safer option of 16+. Be aware that this voids BFL warranty.

We can also do 7gh upgrade. If you didn't get one chip version or double D grade you can get 7+ out. In most cases we are talking 8+. Be aware that this voids BFL warranty.

There is a big chance of 6 chips to work and small for 8 but you will need to look at cooling. We currently don't have enough data to say if this will work. When we get samples we can confirm.

And because of arm twisting yesterday I will put this out even if it is only 80% there.

We have finished first design of the boards. We are highly confident that 4 chip board will cost less then 200$(taxes not included). The design is not optimal at the moment and we need to optimize the components so we can make it cheaper and we are currently on published low quantity prices for components and 200 boards batch. We are moving in 4 chip modular boards that can be put together. We will live open slots for extra chips(up to 8 ) but stranded will probably came with 4(need to test stability and heat dissipation). You can pay extra 5$ to add a chips or do it your self but then cooling will need to be implemented by you and you will need one power and communication module per board. Hi end CPU or GPU cooler should do it. Also if the board is not stable this is your problem. We will make some test and advise but ultimately risk assessment will be yours.

There are 2 modules. One is communication and power and the chip module itself. You can plug 2 chip modules into a single power and communication module and you can plug also a communication module into a communication module. So you can get a long board for as many chips(there will be some limitations but not worked out jet) you like connected to only 1 USB. We will make also mounting brackets and housings to put them in a KNCminer style configuration. Every 4 chip module will need about 60W. It will be powerd ether by PCI-e, molex or both.

It looks like we will need 6 layers boards for chip module and 2 layers for power and communications. We will be ordering sample boards in about 10 to 15 days but not before we have 100 chips ordered. If the sample chips take too long I will give up my Jalapeno to get 2 for tests. Sad

This is how KNCminer looks like. And this is how our casings will probably end up looking

The boards will be on all 4 sides of a tunnel...

I believe the other group buys (e.g. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=236103.60) are also highly interested in your plans! They've already got several 100s batches ordered and are watching this thread.
I, personally, find the fact so interesting that the power consumption of the chips is rather low and that heat dissipation won't seem to be the main problem. So wouldn't it be possible to put the boards for example next to each other and only use passive heatsinks? Or at least a heat-dependent fan that operates very silently. This could be a great opportunity for people who like to keep their mining quiet Wink

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

Passive heatsinks are probably not possible. You still have 16W12W per chip. One would work 2 probably not unless is BIG and you can forget about more. For 4 you need to take away 64W48W. That is midrange CPU... And that are our cooling planes... Cheap CPU coolers... They are not that noisy. We might add auto speed control at later date to the board but current plans do not include it. But if you have other ideas we will not stop you buying it without heatsink.

About other GB. Yes you will be able to buy just board or send chips to me for mounting but not before our costumers get them. They will have hi priority and other costumers will be low. If GB fails to get at lest 100 chips boards will not be made and all collected money returned. So let get first chips onboard ASAP.

EDIT: Bought too many AVALON's chips so I can't buy more them 8 at the moment.

There could also be 1-chip sticks. This would allow for very small boards (like an USB flash drive). They could use a passive heatsink and 15 Watts should be manageable by using an active USB port.
The ASICminer Block Erupter Sticks are very successful... Although they only got 0.3 GH/s! 4GH/s chips could be quite powerful in comparison.

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

BINGO! I was thinking the same thing...
We did look into this idea. But you would need more then one port to powering it... Really impractical... Getting 15W+ in pieces of 2,5W is 6 USB ports... And it would still be BIG for USB key... I would be interested if you have any practical idea how to get power from computer... Or active USB hub... I can only see added brick for powering it. Far from simple USB flash drive...

EDIT: It would probably be cheaper and more practical to buy 1 chip and one board. Probably even 2 chips with board. But then again those ASICminer Block Erupter Sticks were also a rip-off.

Damn, you're right. I did the math a few days ago but I guess I got some numbers wrong... This is difficult with only one USB Port!

Hi Lucko

Relative noob to all this. But I realise its ASIC or go home.....

I'm not sure what i'd be buying into

What is the ETA for actual mining?

Can I buy 3 shares? €183 via sepa (tbc)
(This seems to be the only European purchase where the thread is in English - I appreciate not your 1st language, but still very good.)

Will i just receive a bag full of chips through the post?
That I will then have to get assembled somewhere?

or ->
Can I pay you for assembly?

or ->
Is assembly included?

or ->
Is it hosted and fully assembled (I see the POOL comment, and this would be my preference. Currently GPU mining is driving me mad - Heat and Noise!)
And i receive a weekly payout? (Minus expenses)

In all honesty I need a pay and play solution really
I don't want to buy any more KNC Miner shares as these may not appear in September and I'd like to spread my risk via different vendors technology.

Cheers

Hi!

Lead time should be 100 days from me ordering it. But this is BFL so you never know...

When chips are received you have 3 options:
1. get chips only
2. get boards fully assembled with or without chips
3. get hosting(read first post under hosting)

But for 183€ total cost you will probably not get the board and one chip. You need more. I would recommend minimal of 4 chips. For now this is just a estimate:

chips 4*65=260$ (assuming you buy credits for 10$)
board 200$
Power supply 30$

Total 490$
VAT 22% total less then 600$(you are EU)

That is for 16GH+

It is only 60W so it will not heat you more then a llight bulb and it will not be too much noise...

EDIT: If you need credits and don't know how to get them I can get them for you.
