I know English is not my first language but thous 2 mails contradict each other right?

Quote
Let me break this down. For every 100 chips ordered, we simply provide 2 sample chips from the order up front. So you get 2 samples and then the remaining 98 chips later, completing the order for 100 chips.

However, you can request an additional amount of sample chips to be sent to you as well. We will allow up to 5% of the order to be shipped out as sample chips, so that would be 5 sample chips for every 100 ordered.

If you want to do that, just tell us the order and the amount of samples you'd like to receive, for each particular order.

We sincerely hope this helps you in your development and testing process.

Kind regards,

My apologies, but I think I need to make a clarification.

For every order of 100 chips, we provide 2 samples free of charge. However, in certain cases, we can allow additional chips to be sent along with the sample chips. Those requested are considered an advance on your order and will deduct from the total chips you ordered, for every particular order you've placed.

For example, if you order 100 chips, you will be entitled to 2 (free) samples, should you request them. However, you might be able to request additional chips to be sent with your samples, but those are an advance. In your case, you can request only 5% per order, that is, the samples are treated as if they were a part of the advance when determining the total we may be able to provide you along with your samples.

Hence, you request 5 chips for some order, we deduct the 2 samples, so you will receive 3 chips in advance. This means the completion of your order will come with 97 chips for that order.

Let me know if you need further clarification. Your samples and chip advance have been sent for the two orders you requested.

Kind regards,
Jonathon Griffin

But OK it looks like samples are free just additional chips are taken out of the order...

Anyway I'm waiting for a quote for test board now that everything is ready... Estimate I got at start of GB was 1000€... (one off... so this is more expansive then production)...

You understand it correctly. The second email was a "clarification",  more like a correction (yes they do contradict each other). It looks like we get 2 free sample chips for every 100 ordered but you can request additional that would be deducted from the amount ordered. WOW 1000€ for the test board...

There is an even bigger wow now... It turns out they would like little less then 3000€ now. Explanation is that they didn't look at specks close enough when given me an estimation but they did now when they given me a quote... I'm guessing they figure out what this is for and they know I'm on a deadline... Need to regroup and find someone else ASAP... 3000€(+3000€ for make everything ready for production one) would mean that I can't sell boards for 200$ at the end and brake even...

So this is new plan:
1. Use board of Jalapeno and modify them with additional external board for tests
2. Find someone else to do the board(even if they did come recommended I don't trust them any more)
3. Get a board from MrTeal if all this fails

Does that mean they are charging you 3k euro for one board?

I think he means, are they charging you a total of 6K euro for setup, and pennies per actual board, or is it 3K setup and 3K per board?

Setup and production for test board 3K and for any changed board next 3K... So if I do production and test this is 6K... So for now Jalapeno is entering a center stage and we will modifay it... So we might end up doing only one...

Oh. I see...
With the options with have, I'll opt for MrTeal's.

Jala board looks like it is able to take 8 chips. But I'm not sure whether it will work...

Isn't Mr Teal further along?  Would it be a problem jumping on his design.

Well his board looks OK and with this cost my would cost about the same so yes it is a good option but none guarantees that his will work. He is using different IC... So it is not 100% that it will work in time... But just taking the board and use it is not a problem. For now I will not stop work on board.

Stock Jala will probably work with 4 maybe even 6 chips but what we are planing is to do what we were planing to do with test board. It will not be on a same plate but on a separate more simple and cheap board... about 100€ that can be made in house... And with this we can reasonably well see what chips are doing and make a board that will work well first time. It is not ideal but we need to make the best of the situation...

Considering its made by a semi bfl engineer, I'd say it will work

Anyone else catch this on the linked page? (bolding added)

Custom ASIC mining board designed by Ascendion for BFL and/or Bitfury ASIC chips.

That freaks me out a little.  I wouldn't have thought the two are interchangeable.  Makes me question what the real intent here is.  Two different boards? One board with some form of swappable socket? Mix-and-match chips on one board?

For now I would say this is a test board... It doesn't look to have COM USB interface and it has a lot of what it looks to be debugging interfaces... It also looks to be missing some other power parts... And it looks like power paths to chips are too thin if there are any in this picture. So I think this will change a lot... But it is a weary simple design if you camper it to BFL board... Now I'm not sure all that BFL board has is needed(for example testing power usage of chips to see if they are working) but I would guess that this is there with a reason(detect reset chip and restart it)...

Now if you just look at BFL and Bitfury chips you see that they are really different and I don't see a way to get them on a same "socket". Now I did think about the idea to mount BFL chip on a special board and then put it on a board much easier. But I would guess that you can't since you need cooling them that way. There is no other reason as far as I know to do a chip like that. And for Bitfury chips there is no real reason to add it to a board that would make it interchangeable with BFL since that would make them much harder to mount... So I would guess 2 different boards at the end but same design.

If you read this:
http://eligius.st/~gateway/products/mining-patty
It sounds like there will be another board to control that board...

Found another group developing the boards. They are currently at the testing stage.
What they did is they used the BFL's design, verified it and fixed a few issue.

I'm not that sure about testing stage... If you talk with him you get a filling they don't know much about what they are doing...

see: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=236103.msg2780591#msg2780591

he might have a team behind him that dose but it is hard to say...

I did send also some personal messages and the chip99 and it doesn't fill me with confidence...

If he didn't lie the only difference to the plate is more capacitors. That will work up to a point but I don't think it will go above 4 chips maybe 6...

And what chip99 told me he is in about same position as I. Ready to order the board. Only difference is that board production house didn't give the estimate and then when ordering a quote that was 3 times more...

So I'm adding capacitors to Jala board with external board and they have a board made with them... Then I will add external power supply to see what happens. And if all is well we will have only one board made that will work well in first version... That save me 2000€(Jala was 1000€)... and dropped price of the board.

EDIT: And my samples are stuck in the US... Chicago... Grrr... Waiting for BFL to replay why...

I was right... They are not on a testing stage and they end up with same problem as I did. Increased price... chip99 just contact me asking if I can give them some sample chips for his board that will be ready in about 10 days...
