Just to let you know in case you are not following board project:

Good news everyone.
The board design is ready and we clarify the prices for boards and assembly now.

Changes since rev. 1.0 (COINADO):
- New name: COINTAMINATION
- New size: 189.23 x 144.78 mm
- 4-layer PCB for better power-distribution
- Up to 16 BFL-chips can be mounted in 4x4 clusters. (because of heatsink-balance it is not possible to mount a single chip in one cluster, but 2-4 chips per cluster works)
- Each cluster will have one heatsink and a dedicated fan-connector. (plus one main-fan-connector - we try with passive heatsinks and one central fan first)
- Multiple mounting holes for central fan (for 92 and 120 mm fan)
- Now four power-modules (each for every cluster, with independent adjustable voltages and a better sensing-system now)
- USB-Connector changed to "Mini-USB type B"
- two PCIe power-connectors (for up to 8 chips one of them is sufficient)
- Power- and USB-Connectors are now accessible from one side
- Firmware is still BFL-compatible. You can use their software or a tuned version from any open-source project. (There will be many sometime)

Let me introduce myself, my name is Rob, and I am handling the PCB fab and professional assembly process of this ground breaking project.
The reason you haven't heard from me up to this point is because I have been working with form and lucko behind the scenes. However I am posting now because I am asking for some chip contributors for the first production level Contamination board.

The first boards are going into Fab immediately. Which will take approximately 2 weeks. We will then send one board to the assembly house to have the chips and other components assembled on this new production level board. If the board works (and we expect it will.) this will be the very first professionally (machine assembled) Contamination board.


Personally I am paying for this entire process and also donating 6 sample chips to this first board which should hopefully bridge this project from the prototype to production stage.


It would be terrific if we could have 10 more sample chips donated so we can manufacture and test a full 16 chip board.

In exchange for every 2 chips donated you will receive a free PCB (assembly costs still apply)

So Butterfly Labs has announced a 28nm Version 2 asic chip.... I don't mean to hijack this thread with this topic but I was hoping someone could briefly explain what the difference between a 65nm chip vs 28nm. Is the size smaller  ( nano-meter) which maybe means less heat and same or better performance? I obviously don't what I'm talking about here and looking for a short lesson.

Well smaller you get higher frequency you can have and you can put more in chip. It also uses less power. But I can't see BFL hit 350W for 600GH... KNCminer is using same technology and it is using 1KW for 400GH. So I guess this is FPGA and ASIC all over again... Making the wrong estimate...

Who wants a 500 Gh/S mini rig @$22484-00 when you can have a 600Gh/s "Graphics" card for $4680-00

with 100% trade in for older back orders, and 90% trade in for later, That's a lot more Gh/s for no more money.

the difference that really matters is delivery time.

there are alot of orders for BFL chips that should begin to arrive in about a month.  I have one for 3500 chips for example.
that hashing power will be quite profitable at that time when placed on boards and mined with. 

the new product we won't see for a long time and BFL states on the page that it may take longer than they anticipate.

so the technical difference is not the right question in my opinion as it relates to the design of the board on this thread.

After your comments on the "little single power supply" and some browsing on the web, others also agree it is not the best supply.
I have therefore decided to sell it before it arrives, it's not worth the upgrade cost.

I got my investment back at cost (it was ordered 2nd quarter this year so it is unlikely to be delivered before october) and decided to try to improve on my batch two order, for three and a half boards.

I am now looking for someone in the "group buy" willing to sell 8 chips from batch one or batch two. This way there is no waiting for chips for a "half" board.

If this is not possible then it could be 8 chips from batch three, and let the, "half" board, host on the pool till batch three arrives.

EDIT:   wrong price - 50% price being 0,29 BTC per chip - 8 chips would being 2,32 BTC
