So I just went to change my gender in my profile and I was horrified to find there was only two options: male and female. What the fuck, theymos. This is 2017. What about those of us who identify as non-binary gender-queer pansexuals or attack helicopters?
Theymos, I kindly ask you to check your privilege.... And also your private messages. Thanks.

As a fellow attack helicopter I 100% agree. On a side note, does anyone actually believe gender is a social construct? Am I the only one that believe it cant be changed?

(Relatively) Quite a lot of people nowadays do. Am I the only one that believe it cant be changed?
Anyone who thinks that it can is a bamboozled idiot. Those people are not any better than the "vaccines cause autism" or "the earth is flat" baboons.

"the earth is flat" baboons.
Isn't Luke Dash Jr. a flat-earther? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's always been my understanding.

Hasn't it already been established that Luke Jr. is a bit of a kook?

I would consider myself very libertarian, and when it comes to social issues I am very open to many things. However I just find the whole gender thing really ridiculous.

I guess I don't really care that much if there's a valid medical reason. Gender dysphoria is a thing and if it helps you cope / live and you're not annoying about it, it's fine with me. As long as it doesn't interfere with my life, live and let live. Anything beyond that seems pretty ridiculous. What is this thread tho?

What is this thread tho?According to WolframAlpha, there are about 9,600 cases of gender dysphoria in the US. It seems like way more people than that are acting? like they "identify" as a different gender. Just seems really weird to me.

While I'm not a mental health specialist and might be missing some other group(s) that has (have) a valid medical reason for it, small yet vocal communities of people seem to do it solely for some sort of pseudo-political reasons, with others following suit. These communities seem to be extreme in their leanings, which does worry me.

Unfortunately, I think that you misunderstand the system. Given the trillions of different gender identities, we have adopted a coding system in which each gender identity is assigned a 64-bit number. For example, and only for illustration (I do not wish to presume your wingspan), Apache-attack-helicopter-gendered people would need to input the easy-to-remember code 0x9b68d151aeefa34f. In order to maintain compatibility with legacy systems, however, this is done by submitting the form multiple times with different genders. For example, in this case you would input Male Female Female Male Male Female Male Male Female Male Male Female Male Female Female Female Male Male Female Male Female Female Female Male Female Male Female Male Female Female Female Male Male Female Male Female Male Male Male Female Male Male Male Female Male Male Male Male Male Female Male Female Female Female Male Male Female Male Female Female Male Male Male Male. Simple! Now, it may seem discriminatory to assign Male 1 and Female 0, but not to worry! The coding is designed so that you can also input the inverse and get the same result. And to avoid left-handed bias, you can also enter it in opposite order. In fact, you can just put in whatever sequence of entries you want and the result will be the same.
So you see, bitcointalk.org is in fact the most progressive website ever, and I am ashamed to live in a world in which this system isn't yet codified into law.

I think hilariousanco finally snapped (or got hacked). I'm still clinging on to what's left of my sanity, but I think I slowly lose a piece of it everytime I see someone ask why their activity is 'stuck' or 'wat is sign camp' or refers to bitcoin using the term 'daily needs' or creates a thread in politics & society asking whether people prefer "Beaches or Mountains" (yep, an actual thread in there). I vividly remember one of the last things BadBear said to me before his hibernation: "Whoever fights with monsters should see to it that he does not become a monster in the process. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." -Nietzsche
How I miss him. I know exactly how he must have felt. What is this thread tho?
It's just a bit of an on-a-whim joke after I just saw Lauda misgender someone and thought it was ironic seeing as half the people here seem to think he's a female. Whether it's funny or not is subjective. If we cannot laugh at the insanity of reality then we are all doomed. Unfortunately, I think that you misunderstand the system. Given the trillions of different gender identities, we have For example, and only for illustration (I do not wish to presume your wingspan), Apache-attack-helicopter-gendered people You see this is my problem with you gender terrorists. Us helicopters do not have wings*; we have Rotor length and diameter. Typical cis white male lumping all aircraft together despite our differences. Just another form of racism. White privilege confirmed. [*at least I think we don't]Edit: sanity just gone: Do fish becomes thirsty and drink water too?

This is not even funny to joke about. As someone who lived in charlotte nc when HB2 was in effect I think it is ridiculous that people can think it is okay to force others to recognize them in a way that has no basis in reality, science or truth.

or attack helicopters? I'd love to finally be able to identify as my true self! On a side note, does anyone actually believe gender is a social construct?
(Relatively) Quite a lot of people nowadays do. I think it's only very few people, but they're terribly loud about it and receive way more attention than they should. Unfortunately, I think that you misunderstand the system. Given the trillions of different gender identities, we have adopted a coding system in which each gender identity is assigned a 64-bit number. What if I accidentally exchange a male for a female while doing this? I might end up a identifying as a refrigerator, that's cold man! On a serious note, something that fits in Meta but isn't worth it's own thread: I noticed yesterday that my post count is shown under my nickname: It's only for my own posts, as I didn't enable this in Options. Is there a reason for this change, maybe to make it more obvious when you lose posts due to threads getting trashed?

Is there a reason for this change, maybe to make it more obvious when you lose posts due to threads getting trashed? No, it's to stop newbies confusing their activity with post count, hence all the threads in Meta from sig spamming newbies asking why their activity is 'stucked' or 'broken'. Maybe now these will significantly decrease.
