i wouldnt fault them for mining with customers hardware for a couple days to a week to burn in properly and check for faults. last thing you want is to get your unit and it doesnt work. now if they kept them for weeks or months thats another story

Maybe.

Or maybe manufacturers doing such testing should be using the testnet, so as to not reduce revenue for their other paying customers.
