Hello guys! Yeah, it's another of those threads where a noob asks for some sound mining advice.

I've been in crypto since 2014-2015 and doing pretty well overall, i'm a FA / long-hold / storng hands type of guy, really loving the crypto scene so far (mostly for the memes). I've never mined anything except for some brief experiments with my gaming PC (i remeber mining around 7 DCR per day in early 2016 and thinking "yeah, this is not really worth it". Damn me.).

I've read quite a while in the last couple of weeks about mining, but i still could use some advice from you. So i'm about to buy my first rig and this is what i'm currently looking at:

Mobo: Asrock H110 Pro BTC+ A bit expensive maybe but could allow me to connect 13 GPUs to it if i want to expand my mining operations
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 80+ GOLD two medium PSUs Vs a single, big one. Still undecided, can't see the cons of having a huge 1300 one
GPU: 6x Radeon RX Vega 56 this is ofc where i'm most hesitant, i've picked the Rx 56 over the 1080ti because seems way more efficent in XMR mining ( https://www.reddit.com/r/MoneroMining/comments/74hjqn/monero_and_vega_the_definitive_guide/ ) and i think i'd be fine just mining XMR, i'd also not hate to mine ZEC but i can't find a credible comparison between 1080ti and rx56 for ZEC mining.
The 6 x rx56 should use about 1100 W, i'll be fine with that PSU, right?

Any advice is really appreciated, being it specific to my hw choices or more general, tips, memes..
Thanks for your time

Goodluck buddy,

Just get ready for a long period of time before you paid off your hardware. Probably over a year at today's prices and difficulty.

A tip is too be ready for new launching coins that has a future (yes I know its a gamble) and start mining in the beginning. That's where you can make money.

Don't run full capacity on 1300 better go for a 1500W PSU.

1500W PSUs seem very very expensive, maybe 2 x 850W could be a better choice, with only one going into the mobo and 3 GPUs and the other handling the other 3

2x750 corsair Cx750 or 2x750 CoolerMaster should be fine to run 6 x Rx 56 Vega cards. You will not wait that long though as the price of bitcoin is going down so the altcoins are recovering a bit, a rig of mine with 3xGTX 1060 3GB gpu is giving me 0.0007 btc/day today and it was giving me 0.0005 btc when the price of bitcoin was 7500 USD. So overall I think it is a good investment you are making and good luck to you.

Is mixing AMD and NVIDIA possible or not recommended / efficient?

Hello guys! Yeah, it's another of those threads where a noob asks for some sound mining advice.

I've been in crypto since 2014-2015 and doing pretty well overall, i'm a FA / long-hold / storng hands type of guy, really loving the crypto scene so far (mostly for the memes).

As many said you need more powerful PSU for this config. Should not save money for Power Supply. I would offer the following calculations: 6xVega56 max 250W = 6*250 = 1500 + 100W Platform (CPU, MoBo, external fans) = 1600W + at least 15% reserve = 1840W.
It's only my opinion: better to have more power reserve

Yeah going with 2x 850 i think. I Belive 1700 W are enought for 8 x Vega RX 56, they won't be using 250w each, more like 150w each

If you use Nicehash it is no problem. I have a rig I have built for some friends that consists of 1 x RX 580, 3 x RX 480 , 1x GTX 1060, 1x GTX 1070 and everything is running smoothly. It is in an Gigabyte motherboard with the Z chipset, (personal opinion I think the Z chipset is the best for mining) no problems from several months now.

Not sure why you would pick the 56 over a 1070ti.  The 1070ti is the superior card, more efficient, and will hold its value better.

Not sure why you would pick NH over doing some research and earning more at other pools. Perhaps even double.

That is the great dilemma i have but i prefer the rx56 for the monero efficency, almost 2000 MH/s per card! While the 1070ti or 1080ti seem to be more "versatile", the rx56 does one thing but very well.

Not sure why you would pick NH over doing some research and earning more at other pools. Perhaps even double.
NH? I plan to mine XMR on a classic pool

Thanks for your time
Don't run full capacity on 1300 better go for a 1500W PSU.

even better of a tip, don't buy an atx psu there too costly compared to a server grade psu plus breakout board, I use a 1500w hp server grade psu that's platinum rated and costs me much less than compared to buying an consumer grade atx psu that was NEVER ment to be used for mining

Good luck. Be prepared for all kinds of software and hardware failures. A guarantee with Mining 24/7 is that there will be failure,

Yes you are right investing more on power reserve is the right way to go consideing that the Vega 56 cosumes a lot of power you do not want to have a busted component in your minning rig consideing the prices of a Vega 56 is around to $400 to $450 each.

I understand what is the basis for the wattage calculations, but what can be done about the PSU connectors? The Vega requires 2x8 pin connectors, and they are going to run out real quick. Are there any adapters that can split a connector into 2?

When you go for a decent PSU manufacture like Corsair you should have sufficient cables, especially when you obi for the 2*850W instead of one big unit.

I've never seen mining ZEC wiht vega56. It show best profitability with XMR mining. Be sure to use HBCC options when mining XMR.
