Do we have a directory of accountants by country / state / province / whatever that are already familiar with bitcoin?

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Great question, +1

I suppose we aren't the only ones who are looking for a bitcoin-friendly tax accountant right about now.

In fact, given my daunting realization of what I might face trying to work out my own bitcoin-related tax liabilities, I came to the following conclusion: being the go-to tax accountant for the bitcoin community may be one of the most lucrative positions in the entire bitcoin economy.

I know a guy who is real good with complex, cutting-edge tax issues, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't know about bitcoin yet.  I was thinking of pitching him the idea of going into the "bitcoin tax accountant" business.

Imagine a guy who already is a top-notch tax accountant, and specialist in complex trading or international tax situations, who is also fully versed in bitcoin and related tax issues, who you could deal with over email/chat from anywhere, and pay in BTC ... I suppose there'd be interest here for something like that?

If you are in New York, I can recommend someone that I work with in my practice.

Marco Santori is a lawyer, but not your lawyer, and this is not legal advice.  If you do have specific questions, though, please don't hesitate to PM me.  We've learned this forum isn't 100% secure, so you might prefer to email me.  Maybe I can help!  Depending upon your jurisdiction, this post might be construed as attorney advertising, so: attorney advertising Smiley

I'm in California - I'm guessing there is someone in San Francisco, payward being there and all.

Definitely a good question, a few Bitcoin-specialist CPAs could probably do a lot of business for people in these forums! Though many in the forum probably laugh at the idea of paying an accountant to be compliant with Bitcoin transactions, and think we're crazy for caring!

As odd as it sounds, I actually thought I read a week ago (can't remember where) some governmental guidance that indicated Bitcoin-related earnings might still be something that can be kept off 2013 tax returns. Wouldn't that be nice!
