Hi Guys!  I saw some videos by Vosk Coin on YouTube, and I thought that maybe I could mine ZenCash.  It seems great; the tech behind it is unique (more than just a fork), and it sounds otherwise solid.  The price has been rising, and I like it.  I am wondering: what setup could I use to mine this for between $500-600?  I would love to have a dedicated rig, and just one.  I may get a friend to go into it with me as well.

I totally understand that my price expectations may be low, but let’s try for it.  Also, what disadvantages would I find from doing zcash instead?

Also, does the z8-SNARK algo prefer memory or processing (stream processors or GDDR)?

from 0 500-600 dollars isn't much.  You can get a 1060 3gb for 200.00.  I'd look for an old used computer that supports SLI, throw two 1060s in it and mine away.  Clean simple setup, no risers, no rig frame, I'd just remove the side cover and let it mine.

For 500~600 dollars， you can buy one 1080TI, maybe three 1060 3GB, if you only have one machine, there may have one or two slots, so you could buy one 1080TI to mine ZEN

ROFL 600 aint gunna get you shit
basic hardware is gunna run you atleast 200 to 400, and that doesn't include gpu's
one 1080ti gunna run you atleast 500 bucks, a 1070 is gunna run you around 315, 1070ti around 350, sapphire tech rx 580 is around 300

buying new is really the only way to go as you get the warrenty, if you buy used YOU DONT GET THAT WARRENTY as you have to prove the store you bought it from, which cant be done if you buy it used. therefore when you need to RMA a gpu. you wont be able to as you don't have the right papers to prove you bought it from a store and not used from some jackass selling it for just as much as new. also buying used you have NO guarantee of how long it will last nor do you know what it was used for. for all you know it was used in mining, run hard and put away wet and in that case if it dies before the gpu ROI's your screwed out of a gpu so unless you can get it fir dirt cheap its not worth buying a gpu used

Do U know you PC power supply wattage?? Is it 500 watts or less?

Figure about 60% is what you can use, you mobo might want 100watts for cpu,memory and pwr-supply ( they do generate heat )

That leaves 200 watts, which means you can run two 1060-3 if you run linux and set power to 80 watts for each card ( nvidia-smi -pl 80 -i -0 )

Now if you plan on running Gtx-1070's which cost $600 EACH, and will take U years to get your money back, .. then HELL YES U better buy a 750CM Watt power supply and figure it get a good 500 watts from it,

How much money will U make??

On my rigs so open BTC MOBO each with 6 1060-3, getting 1800 sols/sec, I make over $10/day mining zencash, my power cost is about $3 per rig per day, so I'm making $7/day per rigs of this class,

Each rig has two 750CM power supplys, each 3 cards suck power from each supply

These 750M cost $100, the MOBO $50, CPU $30, MEM $30, so $200 for PC, and $200 for six cards that's a cost of $1400 per rig of this class

So it take 200 days to pay off this HW per rig, and I'm talking about a rig here ( six cards ) your talking about maybe one card, so U may never pay off, and U may never even pay for your electricity.

To the GUY here that tells U to buy a gtx-1080 ( $1,000 each ), now your talking about years to pay back your HW costs

I find the 1060-3 to be the most profitable for sols/$, but even that is hardly profitable, think about it after 200 days, and spending 2-4 hours caring for your rigs, you don't even make enough money to buy a few beers every night

Build a little rig, get a BTC MOBO that is open and designed to mine, that has six risers built-in

Mining in a closed box is insane, they were not designed for more than one card, and even one card U can't keep the side cover on,

Just build a rig, and get a $50 BTC mobo, and $30 cpu/memory, and some cheap cards, and a cheap 750CM watt power supply, get lots of little fans, and one big fan to blow perpendicular

U want to keep heat < 70C, in a closed box heat just stays trapped

The new BTC mobo's are designed for mining, and dirt cheap, u can't go wrong, also the bios is 3rd generation and will support up to 12/24 gpus per card if u decide to go in that direction

don't use winows, its for game-boys and clowns, men who mine use linux

Yeah, that is pretty much what I was suggesting.  He doesn't have the money (nor would I want to spend it) for a new rig.  That is okay.  You should be able to get a used computer for next to nothing that will work.  Windows 10 and 7 is free (just don't register).  You just need a board with 2 PCIe slots that can support SLI, 4gb memory, hard drive, some junk cpu and a power supply.  Put in 2 1060s and start mining.  Not using risers makes things pretty simple.

I got a MSI 970A‑G46, 4x Phenom, 8g DDR3, and a R7 370 for 45.00 on Craigslist.  Someone always needs money.  Check locally on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.

While you don't get the warranty, you also don't pay the "new" price.  For the first 6 months my son bought all his gear off CL and its all still running after being used 24/7.

windows works just fine for mining, especially for those that don't want to learn a bunch of extra commands that have never used Linux a day in there life, ive used both and meh windows is easier to setup than Linux is comparatively for the average person, and I gotta say its such a blanket statement saying men who mine use Linux, quit being a tool dude, btw there are server cases specifically made for mining, which support 6 to 8 gpus and take up much less space than the conventional open air frame rig

I defiantly use windows for mining. Most drivers / programs usually release in Windows 1st, also Afterburner is windows.. Saying who ever uses windows is a kid / bash on it, clearly is closed minded.

warrenty for a lot of gpus is around 2 years, getting used gpus you don't get that at all, you see if a gpu fails you have to go buy another, where as someone like myself that buys only new, if it fails after 6 months to a year I have the choice to RMA and get a gpu that's fully functioning to continue mining at no cost, that new price is well worth it to get a gpu for free if one fails expecially if its after its already ROI'ed, that's more money in your pocket instead of less

Getting into minning is really difficult right now considering that the buget that you have, also consider you power consumption, minning will not get your invesments right away it will come after a few months. Also consider the cost of power in your aread because of the difficulty in minning rising everyday a $600 rig will not cut it.

2  x  gtx1060 3gb will push 630-650 sol/s and cost you about $480-500
1 x gtx 1070 8gb will push 480 sol/s and cost you about $410-420
1 x  gtx 1070ti 8gb will push 510-520 sol and cost $450-470
1 x gtx 1080 8gb will push 530-540 sol and cost $520-550
1x gtx 1080ti will push 770-780 sol an cost $720-750
 
And you need core and memory speed combined

Look good?  That ^ is assuming I only get one 1060, I could always add another, especially if it helps my RoI.
