First Build! Budget RX470/480/570

Hi there new to the Cryptomining world! I have always enjoyed building/upgrading and messing around with PC's and figured why not take a dive into Cryptocurreny more for the hobby than for the profits which seem to be somewhat mediocre vs buying/selling which I have also been dabbling in this year. I've been doing an exuberant amount of reading but there is a lot to take in. Anywho into my current parts list.  

Keep in mind I am going for a budget yet decent ROI build. So far I have amassed.

AsRock Z170-a Gaming M5 Motherboard with a 4GB RAM, and  Celeron G3920

6x PCI'E Risers version 006 with Molex power

1200W HP Server PSU with breakout board x8 6pin connections and x6 6pin- 6+2 24" cables    (I have a seconday 500w Thermaltake PSU for powering the mobo/risers currently)

2x RX480  8GB's

1x RX470  4GB

1x RX570  4GB


Basically I still need 2 more cards, I am trying to source them used from gaming machines locally to reduce my cost as much as possible.



My total build cost thus far is $928

I still plan on getting two more RX 4XX-5XX cards for around and additional $300-400.



My question is, do you guys have any tips for my current build? How am I doing thus far? Also I am concerned I wont have enough Molex connectors to power all my risers. I have been reading a lot of the Pico PSU some people are using. Is this even a possibility with my breakout board only having 8 slots for the 6pins? Seeing as I would still have to find a way to power the risers?

One other question, I have heard of the Pico PSU that could remove my need to run a 2nd Power Supply. Is this possible with my breakout board only having 8 6 pin slots, of which 6 will be used to the GPU's?

Wow, that is an excellent deal so far for that hardware. You can easily daisy chain and/or split your molex connections with a splitter. Just make sure you understand the load you can place on the rail(s) you're attaching your breakout board to and distribute it accordingly to avoid it being overloaded and possibly catching fire. It will always be a safer bet to go for a 1200-1600W PSU built to support a system like the one you're building, since a bad power supply (or bad use of one) can end up frying all of your hardware if you're not careful. However, I understand the desire to keep costs down.

Well, I have some experience with using pico PSU and that expireince was not the good one 
Because of the small cooler inside ( or some models comes without cooler even) there comes some problems with temperatures and overheating
So I personally recommend good 400-500 PSU to power risers.  And your setup is good if you plan to mine ETH and Monero
p.s. do not forget to flash modded bios to your cards!
