Ok so I destroyed my Rig, I think … *solemn look and a minute of silence*…..^_^
This was my last budget rig :
Mobo: 4core1333-Viiv asrock
Power supply Antec Sp-500
One 5970 arctic power cooler

It ran smoothly for a month, I underlocked the mem to 150 through cgminer, till my dual psu cable from hasratestore.com and corsair cx-600 arrived.
I connected dual psu cable with Antec sp500 and CX 600 and connected another 5970 (sapphire), through a powered riser 16 to 16x (powered riser was connected to CX-600) and worked fine for a day. Had to underclock it as it is around 42 centigrade here. But my original hashrate of 700 mhz increased to around a 1.1 gig of hash.

As per my calc, one 5970 was running fine with Antec SP-500 and the new CX 600 had 600w and 5970 take juice of 297w at full strength so I though it should be enough, if i add another 5970.

As soon as I connected the third 5970 (black edition) through a powered riser(1x to 16x) to CX-600, the computer booted and screen went a bit dim. It started installing drivers, I stopped the cgminer which was on autostart and kept on checking through device manager if it is installed. 4 GPUs installed correctly and then the computer stopped.

When I rebooted with 2 cards now nothing happened. The CPU fan is working, the GPU fans are working but no beep and no signal on screen.  Than with one card same, same result, the CPU fan is working, the GPU fans are working but no beep and no signal on screen, no light blink on my keyboard and mouse also which normally came with the first beep.

I also tried every card one time to check. Same result.

As my primary PSU was Antec-SP500 I took it out and ran it with CX-600 only. Same result.

Then I shorted the jumper of BIOS as I think this asrock mobo was developed in 2007 and crossfire technology was not that old so may be this old mobo just supports 2 cards and not three. Results were same. I also took out the BIOS lithium battery, kept it out for 20 minutes and put it back but results remained same. Also noticed in the end that the fan of Antec is not running while CX-600 is running. May be Antec fan was not running for a while, I may have not noticed.

Now my question is should I say the last prayer to my rig?..Smiley or anyone has any other ideas ?.

Currently I am thinking I should take to a workshop and get every component checked separately, the PSUs, mobo and all three 5970s. I can check the psu through paper clip test but this will not tell me if the watts have gone down but it will cost me money, so wanted the opinion of the more experienced guys on the forum.

Thanks.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

Ask workshop to check your motherboard......Not a good idea to have so small PSU for 2-3 cards you need 850W+  modular PSU at least....

I agree but i was using 2 one 500 and one 600 with total of 1100 watt, also as I was using mem as low as 160 so the cards were using less watts. Theoretically, it should have worked....but alas theory and practical are different...Smiley

By the way why modular ? if i remember correctly modular PSU have detachable cords only ...right ? so how will they help ?
