Okay, so, I know full well that this was a terrible idea, however I had a moment of sheer stupidity today and I've sent Bitcoin to my Bitcoin Cash Bittrex account. It was sent from Coinomi's Android app to Bittrex.

Dreaded doing this one day, and regrettably it's finally happened!

Now, the only slight positive I have in my favour at the moment is that the transaction is still yet to be confirmed. I spoke with Coinomi and they said there's nothing they can do as it would've already been sent to thousands of nodes, but that if it remains unconfirmed for 2 weeks it will reappear in my account.

Bittrex are yet to reply.

What do you think my chances are of it remaining unconfirmed and miraculously reappearing? Crossing just about every bone in my body in hope but not feeling very optimistic.

Any help is hugely appreciated!
Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

How much was the transaction fee? I doubt that your transaction will never get confirmed in time.

And if it does get confirmed, your only shot will be to contact Bittrex support and pray for them to help you. Some exchanges will ask for a fee to help you since it's "too much work for them". But I don't know if that's the case for Bittrex, and it may not be worth if you lost a low amount of money.

Thank you for reply, sadly confirmed what I had thought. Admittedly it's a small amount to most people, but a fair chunk to me.

According to Blockchain, the fees are 0.00116184 BTC.

Fee per byte is 311.485 sat/B.

Thank you very much for your support.

I have just filled out the form so hopefully they may be able to help, but from what I have heard they only deal with very high transactions and charge a very high fee, I can't remember the exact amounts but it was way off what I am dealing with.

I really think they should help you, after all it was a mistake by you, if they are to be known as a reputable website, then they will indeed return your deposit, hope all goes well.

I once withdrew bch to localbitcoin and never got it back they said they couldn't. It was horrible and I lost my money Sad
I'm sorry this happened to you. Always check over and over again the address you sending to. Take your time. It took you a long time to make that money you can spend a little more time to secure it and make sure it goes where it should.

I would like to think that too, but sadly I know the reality of these companies, especially with the rate that crypto's have been growing lately they're undoubtedly going to have more work than ever.

Better to have tried and failed than not tried at all I guess! Thank you for your time.

Sadly I was given this URL from Bittrex:
https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000961172?flash_digest=551cc6ecc28bec3ef6d9563cd80bbd580ec62e6f

Since the amount isn't worth $5000 USD and it's certainly not worth their 0.1BTC fee, it looks like it's gone unless a miracle happens and it doesn't get confirmed eventually.

Lesson learned the hard way.

I'm seeing people mention the following:
In the future, you can manually create a second transaction with the same inputs that includes a higher fee. Doing so might get it into a block more quickly, and the original transaction would eventually get dropped afterwards for having invalid (already used) inputs.

Does anyone know if this is true? If so could I make a VERY small transaction with a fairly high fee and hope it gets the initial transaction cancelled?

Yes, and that is called double spending which can come in handy whenever you want to revert a certain transaction, accelerate it by adding more fees or just simply want to send the coins to another address you wish.

Thanks!

My thinking is this:
My transaction which I lost is 0.02179551 BTC with fees of 0.00116184 BTC.

Now, if I was to make a very, very tiny intentional transaction of quite literally next to nothing (0.00015000 BTC for example) with higher fees than the current one, say 0.0020000 BTC for example, would this work?

I have just noticed that one part of the transaction is now showing 'Spent' while the other is saying 'Unspent' but for now it is still unconfirmed.

Thanks for all the help but annoyingly this got confirmed this morning.

Since I wanted to put it into BCH at the time, it's become even more frustrating that my gut instinct was right and it's shot up since!  Cry

Make sure you never make the same mistake guys!
