I am new to all coins but it seems as if some sites such as bitminter also has me mining for Namecoins and items like the macminer is having me mine Litecoins. So I am wondering what coin should I be mining with Bitcoin?

Bitcoin and Namecoin use a similar algorithm (sha256) so they can be 'merge mined'.

Litecoin uses scrypt, so it can't be merge-mined with Bitcoin.

The only way to mine Litecoin at the same time as Bitcoin is maybe if you mined BTC on your GPU and mined LTC on your CPU. You wouldn't get much however, maybe 0.02 LTC per day.

Well you can mine LTC with GPU aswell, just have to use the --pa scrypt command on cgminer. As for the question - It is totally your choice man. Like he said above, you can merge mine, but depending on your Hashing power, LTC could be more profitable than Mining BTC or NMC, although I believe that NMC's goal is much more worthy of a mine than LTC. In my new coin I might look into the option of adding a NMC style system to a Faster coin. Will look into it.

Hope this helps! Cheesy

Namecoin is good
It doesn't seem to be good in a lot in value though.

Like it's been said, you can't merge mine litecoin with bitcoin on the same piece of hardware as they have different algorithms and whatnot, but you would want to compare mining bitcoin and namecoin together VS mining just LTC.

Depends on what you use ASIC or GPU, but IF you are asking this question, i guess you should be using GPU.

Then go for scrypt type, like Litecoin and etc.
