Hi,
I have a question,
By mistake I sent a few Bitcoin-cash BCH to an adress of my Bitcoin BTC account.
They never arrived of course :-(
But since I own the adress on the BTC chain, can I still claim that adress on the BCH chain and get my coins back ?
Thanks for any suggestions.

You Can Do It
If You Have The Private Key Of Your BTC Wallet where You Send Your BCH On It

G
You can use https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ to get your private key from the recovery phrase.
But: Take security precautions!
1. Move the Bitcoins from that address to a safe address first.
2. Make sure you do this on an offline computer, a Linux live CD is best.
3. Be paranoid when doing this, many people lost their coins due to mistakes they made trying to split their forked coins.

Hi,
It looks like I might get my coins back after all.
However I am not sure how to do what you just said.
i Found my "Account extended private key" on the website you mentioned.
But I do'nt know how to proceed from there (and I don't have an offline linux computer at my disposal)
Can you help me to find out how to proceed ?

Since you already did it, it's too late to use an offline computer. Now all you have to do is import the private key in your Bitcoin Cash wallet. I assume you have one already, if not, you'll have to download one first.
Since you've been exporting private keys and (worse!) using your recovery phrase on an online computer, you should now consider your Ledger Nano-S wallet compromised! I'm not familiar with the device, but I would recommend to first safe your coins and then restart everything with a new recovery phrase.
But, since you ignored my previous security precautions, there are several ways to mess up here! You have to be careful, paranoid and think about what you're doing before doing it to keep your coins safe.

Enough warnings, I don't want to be responsible for helping someone who ignores security warnings, that's just waiting for a disaster.

Hey,
Me I happened the exact thing the same.
I transfer to Bitcoin Segwit chain from Bitcoin Cash Split account on a Nano S.
I so used sen to a 3-adress.
And I tried the solution from LoyceV and give private key to new wallet.
And I generate key from offline iancoleman/bip39.
I Generated key with 'Bitcoin' and one with 'Bitcoin cash' and make wallet for each.
I see in all two wallets my transactions, (1=Main and 2=Split)  but not what I should receive on 3-adress.
maybe is due to Segwit adress ?
Is still loose my Bitcoin Cash.
Please tgo help me ?

Hi GBT_User:  I'm having the same problem.  Did you ever recover your BCH?

I'm in the same boat as VenderFee.  I sent BCH to a Segwit BTC address that starts with a 3.  I can't seem to get access to my wallet despite being able to regenerate the private key with the bit39 converter.  I also tried recreating the BTC wallet and then get the private key for that address (which was different than the private key from the bit39 converter) but I was not able to restore my wallet with those private keys using both Electron Cash and Exodus

If anyone have experience with this, it would be awesome if we can put together a sticky since I'm sure this happens to a lot of people, specially the Nano S users since the UI is terrible.  It makes you think you're in the BCH wallet but you're really in the BTC wallet unless you manually change the blockchain in settings.

Thanks in advance and god bless

Hi GBT_User:  I'm having the same problem.  Did you ever recover your BCH?

I'm in the same boat as VenderFee.  I sent BCH to a Segwit BTC address that starts with a 3.
There is currently NO SOLUTION to retrieve BCH that has been sent to a SegWit BTC address (that starts with a "3")

Refer here for detailed explanation and research: https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/6z56x3/attention_benevolent_bch_miners_a_bch/

NOTES:
1. not ALL "3" addresses are SegWit ("3" is a PayToScriptHash/P2SH address... SegWit is just one type of P2SH address, "Legacy" MultiSig's are also P2SH and can sometimes be recovered)
2. While it is not possible today, it *might* be possible at some point in the future if the miners put in the effort. For now, your BCH is locked away. Undecided

Thanks for confirming the sad truth.  I was planning to lock the BCH away anyway.  Hopefully someone can step up to the plate an do a service like this.  Can anyone who mine BCH do this or does it need to be a relatively large pool?  I'm still noob to how mining works

Hello,
Not possible, I Very sorry to hear that.
Maybe service is there in future but maybe BCH not worth much any more than.
Too bad anyway, so sad.
Let's hope we get solution sooner rather than earlier.

I have one more question ultimately.
why can the miners process a transaction to the 3-adress, but unfortunately they do not support the reverse process.
Maybe they should have just not see the faulty order or refuse to process it in the first place because of invalid adress ?
Is very sad in the first place.

Addresses that start with a '3' are Pay-To-Script-Hash (P2SH) addresses.  At the time that the transaction is sent to the address, it is not possible for the miner to know what the script is.  They only know the hash of the script.

BCH supports SOME script types (such as multi-sig), but does NOT support some other script types (such as segWit).

Since the miner does not know the script type, they must assume that the sender is doing what the sender wants to do.  They see a P2SH address, and since they don't have a way to know if it is a hash of a multiSig script or a hash of a segWit script, they process it.

Later, when the recipient wants to spend the money that they received at the address, they provide the script for the miner to validate that they are authorized to access that money.  Since BCH doesn't support segWit, the mining software doesn't know what to do with the segWit script when they receive it.  Therefore, they can't properly process the transaction.

Cryptocurrencies are build on the concept of personal responsibility.  The system will not prevent you from doing valid things that you don't want to do.  It is your responsibility to make sure that what you are doing is what you intend to do.
