据路透社15日最新消息，南非总统祖马在与Zimbabwe总统Mugabe通话后发表声明证实，Mugabe确实被软禁于其津巴布韦家中，但没有遭到人身安全威胁。祖马还表示，作为南部非洲发展共同体主席，将向Zimbabwe派遣使者，与Mugabe和军方见面，以调解该国政治风波。
南非媒体“非洲通讯社”（African News Agency）15日引述一名津巴布韦安全人士消息，93岁国家元首穆加贝，已同意与军方谈判，以放弃权力作为换取妻小离境前往南非获得安全避难所的条件。或将于当地时间16日举行新闻发布会，正式宣布下台的决定。
