antminer just need to give them power from power source (power supply), Internet access, set up the pool and go mining. But yes, ASIC Miner only can mine specific algorithm coin, and when you decide to stop mining, the price will drop on the market.

Antminer is boring  Cheesy GPU rig gives you wide field of creativity. With GPU rig there is no perfection limit you can improve it infinitely. In the same time what is Antminer? It's just a box with fans that gives you money - NOTHING interesting. Anyway your choise in your hands

Of course a mining (gpu) rig is more practical. It's generic computer hardware so you can always sell it, there's always demand even for 2-3+ year old GPUs and motherboards/PSUs/ram/hdd etc — you can get at least 50% of what you paid for them new, and often even more than that. But when new generation ASICs show up the old devices lose a lot of their value pretty much immediately. It's also not that easy to buy last gen ASICs as soon as they're released, and the longer the wait, the less likely you have a complete ROI with them. The risks are also higher with ASICs because of the limited number of algos they support. ASICs are good when you know what you're doing and can get them fast and cheap (= have connections with the developers).

I personally prefer GPU mining rigs. Although you'll find some people who'll say that they're complicated and have issues etc, actually they're not a big deal at all. In fact, if you set everything up right and apply the best settings (overclocks/drivers/temp control) you won't have to worry about anything.

It's simply a normal computer but its parts are not packed in a case but left out in the open air. All you need to do is buy the components wisely and make sure they match (for example a certain CPU is compatible with the motherboard you bought).

Building it won't take more than 20 minutes. You just need to watch a few YouTube videos to find out where each part is supposed to be. It's actually better if you do so before the parts arrive just to have an idea about what you're going to do.

The main reason I prefer GPUs is that they don't make much noise compared with an ASIC. And usually their fans are good enough to cool them down. Two more factors would be electricity consumption and price.

ASICs need significantly more power input than any mining rig would. And of course the price of a single antminer is about the price of a 3-card mining rig.

And another strong point in favor of GPU cards is the ability to sell them at any time and getting back a lot of the money you invested since there's demand for cards as they're used by gamers/designers/normal pc owners etc. While ASICs have one sole purpose and if something happens one day and they can't mine, your money is gone since no one will want them.

What problems with GPU rig do you mean? Once proper configured GPU rig can work unlimited time. Just regular maintenance and everything will be OK. Also ASICs need maintenance too.

Resale value is the biggest one for me. Antminers can't really be salvaged easily and lose most of their value after mining is no longer profitable with them 99% of the time, but with mining rigs graphics cards generally don't lose as much value and nearly all the parts of a mining rig can be sold for a nice amount. ASICs usually need less maintenance, but with a few rigs maintenance isn't a whole lot anyways.

To be honest, there's a lot more possible problems with GPU rigs than with ASICs. That's just the nature of the beast. Statistically speaking, you simply have a lot more variables. Motherboard with cpu/ram/storage and all the ports, then risers, and multiple GPUs for each rig. Operating system with drivers and lots of different software for mining each coin. GPUs need tuning to mine efficiently (undervolting, over/down-clocking etc). There's just too many things that could go wrong.

But in the same time GPUs and other computer parts are more professional made than ASICs. More technologically equipped corporation produce GPU and other parts. And tech process of GPUs is more perfect. It's only due to ASIC production is more younger. And the warranty of GPUs and computer parts is much better than ASICs warranty. The most defects of hardware are appeared in the first few month of running. GPUs you can easelly change to working one unlike ASICs
