I've been looking at companies that offer ASIC miners. Just trying to find out which companies are legit and about how long would it take to receive the unit.

I've looked at Butterfly Labs but i've heard that they are a scam and that people have yet to receive their unit even after a year.

Avalon i know does batched orders so they are difficult to get a hold of and only accept BTC.

Anything would be a big help

BFL is shipping units now but they are are still backed up and have yet to ship out many orders.
Avalon has sold all their 3 batches of units. #2 is partially shipped and #3 has yet to be fulfilled. They are now selling chips to assemblers and endusers.
ASICMINER has their blades and USB's for sale with quick turnaround but they are known to be overpriced.

All other manufacturers have yet to ship out a production unit. They are still in development and most are taking or have taken preorders. Hope this helps.

Just like to add ASICMINER are basically an in-house mining outfit that have recently offered hardware to the public as a "sideline". Shareholders in ASICMINER profit from both sides of the business.

If you really have to mine yourself, I would steer clear of their current offerings for sure, even though the USB miner has just halved in price. If you want to profit from mining, that's a completely different set of criteria, as ASICMINER currently mine with their own equipment 20% to 25% of all bitcoins mined. That excludes all the bitcoins produced through USB and blade mining equipment sold to the public.

You can get direct shares in their mining operation by auctions that pop-up or buy pass-through shares at places like:

The USB Block Eruptor (336 MH/s) went down in price to 0.99 BTC.

Stay out of any ASIC deal for the moment. Gains you might make with some ASIC miner are dwarfed by possible losses due to very little knowns.
Put some money into Bitcoin and altcoins and wait for 2nd generation of chips by vendors who proved they can deliver (ASICMiner, Avalon or BFL).

Worth consideration is if you really want to become a miner. It is a job that locks one (or someone else) in place and requires a lot of nerves. It is
not set and forget job.

I wish I didn't have to agree, but the above is correct - it's a really tricky time to be getting into hardware mining right now.

I've been very pleased with how the ASICMINER stock has been doing, and might be a good interim solution while waiting for the market to sort out ASIC hardware pricing.
