I would say yes, but on the other hand i also think that with tighter regulations it might get ugly for some alts. Research well into a bunch of alts, watch a lot of videos on youtube, basically get a sense of what's going on.

Even though alts are down but before investing do make a through study on the progress of the coin and the ANN off course. Sometime bitcoin rising is not the only reason for the altcoin going down. It may be the lack of interest of people and dev in the coin and not following the roadmap of the coin. So need to first investigate the reason for this.

yes of course it is still very profitable because the most profitable investment is just altcoin you try to imagine with altcoin who have a very good team and have a very good project and use the coin they produce for his project then it is potentially very expensive altcoin and it's easy to get rich.

Looking for an altcoin that will return you gains better than BTC is not impossible.

First of all, we must recognized that BTC or ETH will continue to rise and there is gains to be made simply by holding BTC or ETH.

So when you buy into an altcoin, the gains must be more than what you can get by holding BTC or ETH else why bother. The opportunity cost
must make sense.

Understanding this, you can then go in search for those rare gems that can return you 10x in a short time which is what ETH or BTC cannot give u. BTC and ETH may give u 10x from this point onwards but it will take years... so hunting for a altcoin that gives u 10x in half a year is a profitable activity.

Look for a use case that justify their application on a blockchain. Look for an altcoin that has a real world demand. Look for an altcoin that is being talked about a lot by investors and big names in the crypto world. If you find an altcoin with these characteristics, I am fairly certain a 10x in 6 months or less is achievable in this current market environment. 2018 will be a boom town for good altcoins.

research you coin first and read carefully the details about it.

Indeed true and correct, investing in any form of altcoins was really profitable just make sure the coin plan project is in progress like Waves platform, Ethereum, Neo, and others that are listed at the top 20 coinmarketcap. Because most of profit was came into altcoin not directly in bitcoin even up to now.
